'scuse me whilst I vent
OK, so we haven't had phone service at the house since last Wednesday. The soonest Verizon said they could get someone to the house was today - yes, they're sending someone over, between 9 & 5, on Christmas Eve. Spiffy. And we have to pay for it, because they claim the problem isn't with their line, which I find hard to believe.
Meanwhile, the Internet service (also Verizon, but a different account) has also flipped out. It did this last week, too, but rebooting fixed it. It was showing that the internet access was fine, but ITunes & Explorer insisted there was no internet access. Compounding the weirdness, even as ITunes claimed it had no connection, it downloaded the newest version of the program. Uh, if there's no connection, how'd you download it? Last night, it happened again, same deal - ITunes & Explorer claim not to have a connection, but the hardware shows everything's fine. This time, the computer refused to reboot - it stayed off, but with the power button showing on. I had to unplug it from the wall to get it to do anything at all except be stuck. Then it got stuck again, and I had to leave for work with it still stuck. I'm hoping the guy doesn't show until I get home (I have to be here until 1) as Mom will panic if she has to tell the guy anything other than the phone doesn't work, but we also need him gone ASAP because company is due after 4 and we have cooking & cleaning to do. And I have Friday off, but if the 'net doesn't get fixed I may wind up going into work just so I can go online. Great.
