I Had A Perfectly Good Rant...

...and Disqus appears to have eaten it. Nine times out of ten, I write a long post anywhere, I copy it before I post it. This time, I didn't. And my nice long ranty post disappeared into 'moderation'. (I was posting to 'The Lost Battalion', the open thread on Ta-Nehisi Coates' blog over at the Atlantic. Hence the 'Horde' from the other day, commenters there refer to ourselves as the Horde.) I've been posting several times a day there and never once did one of my posts get flagged or marked for moderation. But this one went to the moderator for review. I posted another half dozen comments afterwards and those all posted no problem. I have no idea what happened here, and TNC won't be back until tomorrow afternoon to approve it. Nuts.

Anyway, the upshot was me ranting about the Westminster Dog Show being won by the Pekingnese, Malachy. Pekes cannot run, can barely walk, cannot mate, cannot give birth, can barely breath and are prone to all manner of health issues. As are English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and several other breeds that have various physical deformations preventing them from doing the basic things in life. Why? Because dumb humans thought 'oh, this will look cute' and bred all these deformities into the animals, then wonder why they're so chronically ill/crippled. It infuriates me, the horrible things people have done to dogs in the name of amusement.

The Horde Has Dispersed

I spent nearly the whole day in Virginia puttering around Olde Towne Alexandria. Being lost, trying to find parking spaces, meeting up with the DC Horde at a coffee house and then moving on to a pizza place after the coffee house kicked us out. Nearly 20 of us showed up, including one each from Chicago and Atlanta, and we got to know each other while chattering about politics, religion, race and other normally toxic topics. One woman's husband checked in frequently from CPAC (he was a lighting rigger) with the dirt on the wingnuts (Andrew Breitbart went nuts on the Occupy demonstrators, etc).  Apparently some of the other people in the coffee shop were offended by our choice of topics, or at least that's what the manager claimed when he told us we had to leave. So as soon as we collected a latecomer (when he came in, I announced 'Ben's here, everyone leave') we started walking around Alexandria until we came upon a pizza place that looked good. They were happy to have us there! The pizza was pretty good and the waiter looked just like Matthew Morrison, without the chin cleft. Adorable guy. After six hours of hanging together we finally called it a day.

This was the first time I've been in DC or Virginia in about 5-6 years. The highways are totally different around there now (hence the lost) and suddenly there's 'local' and 'thru' exits and new roads and ramps and buildings and mostly just holy moly the place has grown like kudzu. I gotta get out more.

This Will Be A Weekend

So far I have:

1 Gaming tonight
2 A meetup of an internet group in Alexandria, VA tomorrow. Bear in mind it's supposed to snow tomorrow morning
3 Gaming Sunday afternoon
4 Mom wants to look at houses Sunday afternoon and there's at least one I'd like to see
5 Last class of the program is Monday night
6 Mom is hosting bridge club Tuesday

Things with no particular time attached include: review/prep for last class, cleaning the house for bridge club, grocery shopping for same, grocery shopping for me (I have nothing to eat at the office), a full DVR and a lot of laundry, going to the gym and oh yeah, some sleep would be nice. And that's just what all I know about.

Meep. Something's gotta give here.
