Writer's Block: Roommate from Hell

[Error: unknown template qotd]
This could take a while.

My freshman year of college, I started in a triple room with two seemingly normal girls. Wrong. They were both bound and determined to stay up all night, preferably loud and drunk, every night. Think Willow's first roomie situation. Further, one of them had a friend who like to ask people inappropriate personal questions, insist on an answer and if she didn't get one, play the victim. They wanted her to move in with us. Uh, no. After 3 weeks, I was finally able to get switched to another dorm, with one roommate. (Both roomies dropped out during freshman year.)

This roomie had a boyfriend. The controlling kind. The kind who felt he needed to control ALL women, not just his. He stayed in the room overnight despite my heated objections; drew a line through the room and informed me if I crossed it, he was entitled to beat me; and generally tried to order me around. Bad idea on his part. I flat out refused. After two weeks of failing to order me around, he punched me. At least that got me moved out of THAT room. (She also dropped out during her first semester; he beat her into critical condition and while she refused to press charges, he was deported for it.) Spent the rest of my freshman year solo. Phew.

Junior year we started it again. New roomie was so into her boyfriend, he controlled her every move and spent nearly every night in the room. He would sneak in after I was asleep. I complained to the RA. The RA told them either he sleeps somewhere else or someone has to move. They liked the room and wanted me to leave (it was my second year in the same room and I wasn't budging). So they started vandalizing the room and the hallway, phoning in death threats against me and trying to convince the other people in our section it was dangerous to have me there and they should demand I be moved. Problem was most of them were in the same room as the previous year and knew me as quiet and boring. They wouldn't do it. After 3 weeks of trying to terrorize me out of the room, they gave up and requested a move. (They did the same thing with her next roommate and both were expelled from the college.)

Meanwhile, I got along just fine with my sophomore and senior year roomies. Go figure.
