Back. Hopefully to high school so I could choose a different college, but I'd settle for last week so I could pick the right lottery numbers!
Writer's Block: Hobby Lobby
Nov. 9th, 2011 07:38 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]I don't really collect anything these days - I still get games, DVDs and CDs from time to time, but I don't get much and I don't really consider them collections.
In the past, I collected baseball and hockey memorabilia (including a lot of autographs), and as a kid I collected glass animals.

Writer's Block: Musically inclined
Oct. 29th, 2011 08:05 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]In elementary school and middle school I played flute in the band. Not well.
Tried teaching myself harmonica and piano. Neither worked.
Started guitar in middle school and played up until about ten years ago. I was good in theory - literally. Music theory, scales, chords, sight reading treble clef - no problem. Hearing tones, improvising, reading bass clef...terrible. And people kept wanting me to play bass instead, but my hands are too small and the whole reading bass clef thing. Gave it up for good when my hands started hurting, I do miss it sometimes but the hands just can't handle it.

Aug. 31st, 2011 07:18 amIce cream, ice cream and did I mention ice cream? Oh, I'd be so much thinner if that stuff didn't exist.
Presently in the freezer are Friendly's Butter Crunch (first time I've found some in ages), Wildberry Cheesecake (forgot the brand) and Haagen-Daz Bananas Foster, a particular favorite. Over the weekend I polished off another H-D and 2 pints of Ben & Jerry's. Just in case the freezer stopped working, of course. Just in case.

A concoction called 'shrimp elegant'. Rice, shrimp, onions & mushrooms in a sour cream based sauce.
Unfortunately, my mother is losing it and ruins it more often than not these days. Last time she way undercooked the rice and set the saute pan on fire by putting in the onions and nothing else and walking off. Sigh.

Back in their respective heydays, I was a big fan of Scorpius (Farscape) and Luther Mahoney (Homicide: Life on the Streets). In both cases you had a villain who was amoral and determined to bring down our heroes; but then they'd turn around and help, or do something good for someone else. They did the right thing just enough to make you wonder what they'd do next. More recently, I think Ben Linus (Lost) falls into this category.
For pure sociopathic delight, Alice (Luther) is tops these days.

After 6-7 years of Spanish in high school and college, you'd think I'd know it. And I can read Spanish well. But I can't speak it for the life of me. I'd like to go back to school on that one and become genuinely fluent in it. I'd like to learn a third or fourth language to at least conversational level as well - probably Italian for convenience (it's close to Spanish) and German for every day, it's very common amongst gamers.

Fried alligator, with blackberry sauce. It was alright, basically just a really big fried clam with a good sauce. The weird thing was that the unfortunate alligator had been caught and killed on a local golf course earlier in the day...and it was my father and brother who had called the park rangers to tell them there was an alligator on the fairway. Now there's a coinky-dink.

Oh, I've had some real winners. The micromanager. The yeller. The OCD case.
But the guy who emotionally and physically abused me for almost 10 years, sabotaged my attempts to find another job, fired me over the phone, contested the firing at unemployment and meanwhile hired a man for the same job at twice the salary has to be the grand prize. I didn't get revenge, per se, but when his lease at that office ran out, the landlords refused to renew it because he was so abusive of his employees, they didn't want his toxin in their building.
