WTMD favored us with a Beatles marathon today. Nothing but for 12 hours. I don't usually spend most of the day with the radio on or earbuds in, but I did today! Well, at least until my ears hurt from the buds, then I took a break for a couple hours. I also sang away in the car and did some singing and air drums in the office until the junior attorney came in from court. (I had the main room to myself until he showed up. Party pooper.) And now my voice is shot.

Oh-oh-oh-oh Iiiiiii, should've known better...

Oh, there's plenty of them. But the one that immediately leapt to mind is the Beatles' 'Eight Days A Week'

I had just turned 11 when Lennon was murdered. I didn't listen to a lot of pop music then (the parents were into classical and Broadway) but I was familiar with exactly 3 pop bands: Blood Sweat & Tears, the Moody Blues, and the Beatles. They were the only pop bands my parents liked. And the music teacher at my elementary school adored the Beatles, so by far, they were the ones I knew best. And Double Fantasy ruled the airwaves at the time. So Lennon was more or less the first famous person I was familiar with and liked to die when I was old enough to know what that meant. I walked around stunned for 2 days because I didn't know what to make of this. To this day it stings. I know his music much better now (both Beatles and solo) and I can't conceive of how difficult it would have been to make sense of this had it happened now.

The other weird thing about Lennon's murder for me: I was watching MNF when Cosell made the announcement. At that time in my life, I hated football. And I never watched MNF. I have no idea or memory of why it was I happened to be watching it that night, but I was.

The game Ticket To Ride, that is, although the song is pretty damn infectious, too. But I registered to play and it's all I want to do now. Sheesh. Oh, and I can't get the full screen on the netbook, for some reason, either the top or bottom 1/4 has to go off screen, which is annoying. But I must...play...more...games...

You know, I can understand it if a supplier stops supplying, or an item otherwise becomes indefinitely unavailable. What I don't understand is how, if you know enough to cancel the order and credit the buyer's account for the item, THAT YOU CAN'T SEND THEM A FREAKIN' E-MAIL SAYING SO. Really, would a 'this item is no longer available, your account has been credited' e-mail really kill them?

Apparently so. Two years in a row they've done it. Last year for my Tom Lehrer box set, yesterday for my brother's Beatles Rock Band Special Edition. Gack.
