Back in their respective heydays, I was a big fan of Scorpius (Farscape) and Luther Mahoney (Homicide: Life on the Streets). In both cases you had a villain who was amoral and determined to bring down our heroes; but then they'd turn around and help, or do something good for someone else. They did the right thing just enough to make you wonder what they'd do next. More recently, I think Ben Linus (Lost) falls into this category.

For pure sociopathic delight, Alice (Luther) is tops these days.

The family is going to Maine for Christmas, so they came down to our place today to have our traditional Christmas Eve...on Dec 18th. It was wacky, as both boys were smart-alecky/cranky and Mom got half her gifts erroneously tagged, and I took over full responsibility for the stockings this year. Naturally, the boys were unhappy with the last two, fighting over the gifts and complaining because I gave them traditional Christmas oranges in the stockings. But I stocked them up with Star Wars stuff so after a while they got over it. There were no surprises amongst the adults - I now have the complete '10 Days In..." game series, the last season of Lost, the first season of In Plain Sight, the Jayhawks' first and long out-of-print first album, the new Fitz & the Tantrums CD, and playing card holders, which hopefully will ease things for my hands somewhat. Mom received a whole bunch of blankets, warm socks, jackets, flannel PJs, etc so she should be well-insulated this winter. We had dinner created for us by Safeway and we needed only to heat everything; everything was good to very good, and the turkey was terrific, so success on that count.

And now, we're pooped.

OK, whose bright idea was it to air two mindbending, WTF? series finales in 48 hours? I was still working on Ashes to Ashes when Lost was dropped on me. Up half the night working that one out. I have a theory, but I think it will require diagrams. Also finally got to the season ender of V and that had quite the twist there, too. Spoilers for V finale )
Then I come to work, except I can't. A truck, loaded with an MTA bus, has parked across the intersection to the street my office is on. No vehicles can get onto or off of the street. I spent the first 15 minutes of the work day sitting in my car blowing my horn at this moron. He pulls 20 feet further forward and people can access the street, but he won't do it. Jackass.

Watching the pre show, and realizing, much to my chagrin...no way I can stay awake for the finale. No way I wake up the next day either. A day without the internet is upon me...

Not really a spoiler, but just in case )

I managed to dig through everything far enough to get to the home computer and watch 'Lost' on it. I don't like watching TV on my computer. And half the time it doesn't work anyway (took a couple programs to find one that would play Lost for me, VLC did the job.) But without anything to sit on and no fridge/stove/tv/etc, there's not much to do but play games online and go to bed.

BTW, is it just me, or does Settlers of Cataan have a disproportionate number of crazy online players? I rarely run into problems online beyond the occasional quitter, but when I play Settlers on Brettspielwelt, I wonder if there's a full moon. Half the players are crazy, rude or both. But only that game. What gives?

Home from Farpoint, and kind of wishing I hadn't left the con. I'll get back to that.

The gist of things )
gonzai: (Checking In)
Signing in from the Lost panel, of course. Arrived at Farpoint safely and all is copacetic.

Watched it all last night. Too tired to even try to evaluate the timeline business.

However,

Attention Lost Fans: Do not, I repeat, Do not, talk to be about the show before Thursday. I can't stay up to 11 and be funtional at work; I can barely stay up to TEN and be functional at work. Therefore, I am DVRing Lost and will not watch it until Wednesday night. Anyone spoiling me prior to then is subject to be stuffed in a crate with CJ, preferably on a day she's a bit gassy. You have been warned.

So I'm sitting here at work, trying not to think about the clients-from-a-very-significant-federal-agency who are in the next room auditing our billings, and my mind turns to Supernatural and Lost and the parallels that seem to be popping up between them. Previous Supernatural Season 5 Musings )  And another one came flying into my mind.

Vaguely spoilerly if you haven't watched Supernatural this season )
gonzai: (Emerson)
OK, so I didn't see Supernatural until tonight. Sue me. That was a great football game last night.

Anyway...is anyone besides me greatly amused at the idea of Mark Pellegrino playing the Devil (Supernatural) and an angel (Lost) on the same season of television? It gives me giggles.
gonzai: (Owen)
Watched the finales over the last two nights, and there were some interesting parallels/coinky-dinks. Could almost wonder if the respective show-runners knew what the other show was up to...

Comparisons )
There's probably more but I'm too tired/headachy to come up with them at the  moment.

Lost Finale Thoughts and Spoilers )

OK, head hurts now.
gonzai: (Yikes)
I thought I was going to have a conflict issue last night. Ahhh...not so much. Everytime I turned on the game, the Pengwhines scored. Pretty easy choice with the Caps getting their posteriors handed to them. I was probably too tired to be watching Lost though, I think the massive information overwhelmed my tired little noggin.

Pre-coffee thoughts:

Lost )
Life On Mars )

Brisco County has arrived and except for a crack in Disc 1, which doesn't seem to affect the disc's playing, the set is quite pretty. So far, the show's cute and Mom is enjoying a western, which is miraculous unto itself.

Watched Castle, Cold Case & NCIS all on the same night, and I realized what it is that I like about Cold Case - it always takes me at least half the show, and usually more than that, sometimes til the very end, to figure out who the killer is. Most of these shows, the killer is quite obviously the guest star, because there's usually only one or two non-regulars present to begin with. At least Cold Case throws out a half dozen+ people who could have done it and keeps them all plausible for most of the show.

The only show I got to watch live last night was Lost. Teensiest spoiler for Lost )
This morning I happened to hear Foo Fighter's 'Learn to Fly' on the radio. I haven't heard that song in years, and I forgot just how awesome it is. Ah, the days of driving late at night with Foo Fighters, Collective Soul and Radiohead to keep one awake...

On the music front, I finally bit the bullet and bought a bunch of Tom Lehrer CDs. It had to be done. Except, please, always call it research.
