Didn't get to see Felicia Day (she had a crowd of fanboys) but otherwise day one was a relaxing, ease-in day. Bought my must-have items at the dealer's room, discovered the restaurant makes a great flatbread pizza, said hey to most of the folks I know and interrupted the Supernatural panel repeatedly. (That last part is unofficial tradition at this point. At least this time I didn't do it with 'Heat of the Moment'.) Hopefully can knock out the autographs and panels tomorrow, and get in some gaming with [livejournal.com profile] jslinder and whoever else I can shanghai.
gonzai: (Seriously?)
I'm watching 'The Good Wife' right now, and a few episodes here and there lately have included a batty old feller named Howard wandering around the Lockhart/Gardner office. Apparently he's a partner. I absolutely do not remember when Howard was introduced on the show, who he is or why he's there, even though I've watched every episode of the show. I'm baffled.

Meanwhile, watching last week's 'Supernatural', that episode featured a hunter named Annie. I have absolutely no recollection of her, either. Same deal, I've seen every episode at least once and thought I understood the show, but I don't remember seeing her before.

Maybe I need to sleep for a week...

Is it just me or is television suddenly having a horror renaissance?

The Walking Dead
Being Human (US & UK flavors)
Lost Girl
The River
Vampire Diaries
Supernatural
The Fades
Grimm
The Secret Circle

I don't watch all of these, but still, that's an awful lot of creepy TV.

I am neither watching nor recording Supernatural tonight. See, Mom saw a segment on Martin Sheen the other day (I'm sure I've mentioned that she adores him to pieces) and got it into her head she wants to see 'Apocalypse Now'. I saw that once. I'll be much happier in my life if I never see it again. But she wants to see it. And it's on tonight. All 4.5 hours of it. On the same time as Supernatural and Grimm. Which means that to record the movie for her, one of my shows has to get the boot. Grumble...

(I do have ways of getting Supernatural, it'll just have to wait until tomorrow.)

Somehow I managed to not play any new games all weekend, although I did play a few games that I hadn't played in some time and needed a refresher. Won 7 Wonders & Ra Dice for the first time each, and did very well in the silent auction, scooping up 4 games for well under retail (was overcharged for one game, but didn't feel it was worth arguing over.) Picked up Bohnanza, Ra, Settlers of America: Trails to Rails and a Lord of the Rings game. Bought a Fluxx game and a set of purple meeples for Carcassonne.

I caused a lot of trouble in Chili's by asking the bartender if she could put on the sound for the Kentucky Derby. There were 30 people in the bar watching the race, and one guy watching the Memphis/OK City basketball game. Yep, that guy had a full blown cow. Figures.

Trying to get caught up on television now, hoping I can get to Supernatural and Doctor Who tonight but it'll be tight time-wise.

And yes, still no games. I was asked once to play, but I was asked 30 minutes before a panel so that took care of that. Also lost all but one of my auction bids in the charity and art auctions, sold only 4 prints, all at the minimum bid (and I lowered my minimums for the show) and some things I wanted at the dealers room didn't last until today. Yippee. On the other hand, had a very nice chat with Tahmoh, met Bonita Friedericy and caught some of her panel, which was a laugh riot, and I'll need a brain eraser after some of the...discussions...about Supernatural.

For an encore, the Office Depot by the hotel did not have the onsale item I wanted in stock and the traffic from the con to home was horrific. All in all, this year's Farpoint was underwhelming. Jeff & Terri, you didn't miss much.
gonzai: (oh really)

Yes, already. After 8, the only possibilities were gaming, and the Chesapeake's party at 10. The game room consisted of a beading workshop and Axis & Allies. No one there interested in any board games. For that matter, there were a whopping 4 games in the room I know how to play. And I'm beat, so I decided against doing nothing for 2 hours and went home. I figure I can watch Supernatural and get to bed at a reasonable hour, which gives me a fighting chance for tomorrow.

But honestly, I'm really not feeling it. Probably just a couple panels tomorrow, Trivial Pursuit with [livejournal.com profile] tiggerallyn and anyone we can recruit, and that's it. Well, I should get an autograph from Tahmoh Penikett at some point. He is hot, after all.

V gets a second season? Seriously? I didn't think anyone was watching it. I'm good with it, as I'm curious to see where they'll go with it (and I'm not wedded to the 80s version).

Law & Order, original flavor, gone. Wow. Rather amazing that NBC would dump it for 'new shows' when they've proven rather conclusively the last few years that they can't produce a decent new show to save their lives. (They should take a long look at USA and start modeling themselves after that.)

Cold Case & Damages - clearly, both shows don't think they're coming back. The last few Cold Cases and the final Damages were all tying up loose storylines and/or giving characters promising new beginnings.

I have not watched the Supernatural finale. I was comatose at 9 last night so didn't even try. Tonight, honest.

Not even bothering to try to make sense of Ashes to Ashes anymore. Still watching, mind, but not trying to figure it out.

Back to work.

Watching last night's Supernatural, and now I know why Matt Frewer cancelled on Farpoint - minor casting spoiler ). At least it should be fun watching him chew that scenery.
gonzai: (Dexter)
And all I can think is, geez, Michael Shanks must be desperate for a paycheck to take that role...

I suspect I do not always take away from my shows what they wanted me to get.
gonzai: (McGeek)
And all I can think about is how the heck would you explain that motel room to the cleaning crew/management?

Yeah yeah yeah, I'm sure they're just going to skeddadle and stick around to explain, but damn, that's a mess.

D'Oh!

How is it that I have been watching Supernatural, the continuing saga of those two crazy Winchester boys and their papa figure Bobby Singer, for five years...and it took me until tonight to notice that one of the show's producers is named Robert Singer?

'scuse me while I'm an idjit...
gonzai: (Yikes)
I didn't get a chance to watch last week's Supernatural before I went to Farpoint, and I went to the panel for the show anyway, spoilers be damned. As it turned out, the spoilers were helpful. These are spoilers. )

Home from Farpoint, and kind of wishing I hadn't left the con. I'll get back to that.

The gist of things )

Is rather light. Not a whole lot of panels I'm interested in, and a whopping one on Saturday (Dr Who), which is of course scheduled against autographs. And for the 4th year in a row, Supernatural is against autographs & the art auction/artist pickup. What's with that? But this year I was looking at least as much towards socializing and gaming so in that respect the light panel schedule isn't so bad. And the Dominion tournament is in the morning, so I have a fighting chance at it assuming I'm less hung over that other participants! As long as the roads are cleaned up enough for [livejournal.com profile] terri_osborne and I to get there Friday, should be a good weekend with friends.

Home now, and probably not leaving the house again until Monday, maybe not until Tuesday! Present forecast is for 22-28 inches of snow today and tomorrow. 28 inches is the record for the area. We have plenty of food, ice melt, shovels and brooms. Time to cocoon.

The office was closing early, and the boss had me come in at 8 instead of 9 with the intent of sending me home even earlier, as I'm the lone non-4-wheel driver. So I'm half asleep. Hopefully getting a few things done on the computer re artwork for Farpoint before I doze off.

Supernatural was booted last night by a basketball game. Basketball, booooo! Want show!

Just an FYI, if you don't already have it, Best Buy is offering the season 4 set this week for $16.99. A nice price if I dare say so myself (and yes, I bought one.)

TNT has picked up Supernatural in syndication; they'll start airing it Monday, Jan 4 at 10am.

Enjoy!

The Grinch of course. The cartoon, of course!

There are standards I try to catch every year, but this year I've been really bad about it. And I've had quite enough of 'It's a Wonderful Life', thanks, I'll take something else. A few TV shows have had good Christmas eps recently - Supernatural's 'A Very Supernatural Christmas' and Bones' 'The Man In The Fallout Shelter' spring to mind.
