V gets a second season? Seriously? I didn't think anyone was watching it. I'm good with it, as I'm curious to see where they'll go with it (and I'm not wedded to the 80s version).

Law & Order, original flavor, gone. Wow. Rather amazing that NBC would dump it for 'new shows' when they've proven rather conclusively the last few years that they can't produce a decent new show to save their lives. (They should take a long look at USA and start modeling themselves after that.)

Cold Case & Damages - clearly, both shows don't think they're coming back. The last few Cold Cases and the final Damages were all tying up loose storylines and/or giving characters promising new beginnings.

I have not watched the Supernatural finale. I was comatose at 9 last night so didn't even try. Tonight, honest.

Not even bothering to try to make sense of Ashes to Ashes anymore. Still watching, mind, but not trying to figure it out.

Back to work.

Mild spoilers for this week's Cold Case )

Saw [livejournal.com profile] neadods 's post about someone who didn't like female characters, so several people started listing their own. Might as well chime in on that, right? Although I should be going to bed, so I may forget some characters, go short on the comments or completely forget a fandom. Or define fandom really loosely. No particular order, btw.

Buffy. Any woman/girl on Buffy, really, at least among the major characters. They were all interesting, strong, changed as their experiences changed, and never stopped being themselves.

Zoe Washbourne, Firefly: The consummate soldier. And she loves nerds.

Laura Roslin, BSG. Some people rise to their level of incompetence, some people rise to the occasion. Holy hannah, but Roslin rose to the occasion. What would have happened to the survivors without her? Guaranteed, there wouldn't be any.

CJ Cregg, West Wing. I named my dog CJ. Does that give you a clue? 'cause if it doesn't, she'll ram that motherboard up your...never mind.

Doctor Who. Pretty much all the regulars in the current version. Donna is awesome, Martha left on her own terms, etc.

Lily Rush, Cold Case. By all rights, she should be a wreck. Instead, she's a first rate cop.

Mary Shannon, In Plain Sight. She is a wreck. But she's still the best at her job and men live in fear of her :)

Abby Sciuto, NCIS. A true free spirit, but also a warm-hearted genius and the best at what she does.

Ziva David, NCIS. Kicks ass, rarely bothers to take a name.

Fiona, Burn Notice. See Ziva, add explosives.

Sarah Conner, T:SCC. See Ziva & Fiona, add protecting her young.

Patty Hewes, Damages. Could write a book on her...

Angela Montenegro, Bones. Never met a punch she couldn't roll with. Wins title of 'most easy-going without being a doormat'.

Charlotte 'Chuck' Charles, Pushing Daisies. Taking the whole 'dead' thing very well. Taking charge of it, in fact.

Now I must sleep...

Brisco County has arrived and except for a crack in Disc 1, which doesn't seem to affect the disc's playing, the set is quite pretty. So far, the show's cute and Mom is enjoying a western, which is miraculous unto itself.

Watched Castle, Cold Case & NCIS all on the same night, and I realized what it is that I like about Cold Case - it always takes me at least half the show, and usually more than that, sometimes til the very end, to figure out who the killer is. Most of these shows, the killer is quite obviously the guest star, because there's usually only one or two non-regulars present to begin with. At least Cold Case throws out a half dozen+ people who could have done it and keeps them all plausible for most of the show.

The only show I got to watch live last night was Lost. Teensiest spoiler for Lost )
This morning I happened to hear Foo Fighter's 'Learn to Fly' on the radio. I haven't heard that song in years, and I forgot just how awesome it is. Ah, the days of driving late at night with Foo Fighters, Collective Soul and Radiohead to keep one awake...

On the music front, I finally bit the bullet and bought a bunch of Tom Lehrer CDs. It had to be done. Except, please, always call it research.
