Went Christmas shopping with Mom, which is a bit troubling - she couldn't remember what she was getting for whom or where, even with a list and my prodding, and she made me shop at Kohl's (long story but I refuse to shop there) - but I got some clothes, a plant for the office and Season One of Dollhouse out of it. Oh, and I get to inflict some Newbery winning books on my nephews for Christmas. I read ALL of the Newbery books through 1982 or so and I'm more than happy to pick some for the boys. (A Wrinkle in Time, Across Five Aprils, and Johnny Tremain, to be specific.)

Then home to watch Maryland spoil NC State's championship bid, and watch Despicable Me. I love the minions. Seriously.

Home from Farpoint, and kind of wishing I hadn't left the con. I'll get back to that.

The gist of things )

Just a compilation of ideas from the telly this week...no spoilers...

Leverage - I'm ready to have Sophie back. Jeri Ryan doesn't offend me or anything, but she's not Sophie.

Castle - Alyssa Milano looks much better with a few more pounds on her and she's adorable with Nathan Fillion. Cute ep.

NCIS - the appearance of Tony's Dad was so pre-hyped, the actual episode was rather a let down. And it was often said Tony was disinherited by and estranged from his father, so the existence of a trust fund for Tony and the fact he and his father do, apparently speak on occasion, is kind of contradictory.

American Masters - enjoyed the two eps they aired this week, about two of my favorite singers, Sam Cooke & Marvin Gaye. Cooke was huge loss to the world. Not sure if Gaye was, given his chronic problems with drugs, but I'm grateful for what he gave us before he left.

Dollhouse - the show is SO much better the last several eps, the post-cancellation acceleration of the story has improved the show exponentially and it's bordering on too exciting/info overload. Too bad it couldn't have been like this the whole series. Looking forward to Epitaph 2, whenever they get around to airing it.

BTW, loaned Dr Horrible to my boss. He watched it, according to him, 20 times in the 3 weeks he had the DVD, so he broke down and bought his own copy. I find this all very amusing.

As regulars to this blog know, I am a new football fan, having discovered the game in the last few years. One thing that drives me absolutely bananas is constant references to things without explaining them. Case in point: the 'wildcat offense'. Everyone talks about it. No one says what it is. And everyone I've asked? Turns out they don't actually know what it is, they just talk about it like they do.

Well, I finally found out what a wildcat offense is. The source of this information? Dollhouse. Yes, the sci-fi/creepy/on its last legs Whedon project. A character on the show explained what the wildcat is.

Now this is ridiculous...

I'm still here. I swept off the porch 2 hours ago, and there was almost a foot of snow on it. I swept 6 inches off it this morning. It's up to CJ's back, which has her rather confused, she's never seen more than a couple inches before. Probably 20 inches now, which is by far the most we've had since the infamous 'Snowpoint' blizzard.

Besides the sweeping, managed to get the tree out and up, burned a promo CD for a cafe which might be willing to display my art, watched 'Enchanted' (cute), both eps of 'Dollhouse' (dark) and cleaned up the computer a bit. Plenty more to do in that respect, plenty to watch, etc but I'll settle for getting some stuff wrapped tonight.

Thursday )

Friday, the art show )
Friday, the fun ), who was flying solo for the first time. She was being plied with much friendship and whiskey and was doing quite well.

Final adventure of the night: the USS Chesapeake. They were having a public party and all were invited; I probably would get an invite even if it was private though, I know them all and we can talk each others' ears off. Which we did, first at the Dollhouse panel and then later on along with several newbies who'd never been to a con before and wandered in because they didn't know where else to find a party. They found a lot of new friends, I guarantee. At 12:30 I headed home, mostly because I didn't realize it was that late, but stayed up until 2am trying to find/make rainbow Torchwood decals. Unsuccessfully.

ETA I've edited the cut on this entry seven times now and it WILL NOT include the last paragraph. I'm getting very frustrated.

It's up, I've only looked at Friday, and I already have conflicts. Dr Who v Dollhouse, specifically. Great.

If you wanna see what's coming... )   Off to look at Saturday and Sunday. Fearfully.

ETA: Not too bad, in fact. Farscape v Lost on Saturday, and Dr Who v Supernatural Sunday, and that's all the conflicts. Multiple Dollhouse & Who panels, so I should be able to do at least one of each. Nothing Sunday morning. Very little conflict with the art show. All in all, very satisfactory for my purposes.

10 Minutes

That's all I wanted, those last ten minutes...so I'm watching Dollhouse and soaking in the Alan goodness (or evilness, as was the case) and with 10 minutes remaining, F*X goes haywire - or at least, the local F*X did - the screen freezes and it was still like that at 10:15, when I gave up. I know, I know, bad Gonzai ), but I'm annoyed I have to do that for 10 minutes I was capable of watching and was really anxious to watch...F*X sucks SO bad...

Apparently the Joss gang and Fox are at it again: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/09/AR2009040904162.html

What was interesting is that the author of the piece, Lisa De Moraes, is also hosting a chat at WaPo this afternoon, entitled 'The Demise of Dollhouse'. There was no further info provided. There seems to be a heck of a difference between arguing over airing an episode and cancelling the show outright though, so I'm wondering what WaPo has left out/has up its sleeve.

I just had a wild and crazy theory on Dollhouse on [personal profile] sol_se 's LJ, but you can't do cuts on comments, AFAIK. Dollhouse theory )Elsewhere, Damages finale )

Last but not least, Ashes to Ashes returns April 21st! And just in time, we finished season 1 yesterday. Ashes to Ashes, Season 1 comments )
Last thought - we also watched 'Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day' last night. Wonderful movie. Very light and witty and in the end has something to say about life and love. And Lee Pace is gorgeous. Highly recommend.
