I will be the first to admit that I am chronically late/rushed in the morning. However, throwing a very recalcitrant dog (who woke me an hour early and refused to go upstairs at the appropriate time), a bunch of utility workers who apparently think our driveway is their parking lot, and an obnoxious sales call from an energy company who wouldn't take no, much less 'you cannot speak to my mother' as an answer, did not help me get out the door any faster. (BTW, I would love, love, LOVE some regulation on the bleepin' energy companies. Constant calls, deceptive practices, refusing to put things in writing...grrrr.)

The actual work day was passable, my PT is pleased with the progress of my knee (and he was on time for a change), and the line for a Ravens autograph was reasonable, however. Picked up a signed piccie from Dennis Pitta, who caught the winning TD for the Ravens Sunday. I told him to try not to freeze this weekend - it's supposed to be 15 degrees at gametime. I think I'll be cuddled under my blankies at home.

There are none. At least not when the Ravens are playing.

It was a beautiful day, absolutely perfect for an event like a charity softball game. It didn't go as well as I would have hoped - both before and after the game, I was on the wrong side of the field for autographs. The event organizer, cornerback Lardarius Webb, twice stopped signing just before getting to me, and everyone else was always on the other side. Got a whopping 5 autographs, all but one post-game. And then I missed the first half of the game because the concession stands were not prepared for a crowd. Or anyone, apparently, they ran out of cups, Coke, Diet Coke, chili, corn dogs & pretzels and that was before I got to the stand. Took 45 minutes to get a bleeping drink. Mom, meanwhile, sat in the stands having a nice chat with her seat neighbor and enjoying the heck out of the game. And it was amusing once I made it back, the batters and pitchers were all being goofs and the fielders, well, they were proving they should stick to football. So Mom had a great time, mine was okay.

But - pictures!
First up, Joe Flacco & Torrey Smith hang out in the infield.
Torrey Smith taking some cuts at the plate, but no one notices. Below, Ramon Harewood watches Lardarius Webb try to bunt.
Ray Rice was rocking the shorts 3 sizes too large look, but so was Gino Gradkowski.
Ray Rice, headed out but then he stopped to sign a few things.

Hey Joe!

It's Joe the Quarterback! OK, Joe Flacco, the Ravens' QB. He did a signing in my area today and I went over. Couldn't have been much better, really, other than the crazy woman in line behind me, it was 75 degrees, partly cloudy, the line was long but I've seen worse and it moved fast. I waited half an hour, then got in. Took 40 minutes to get to Joe. Took a bunch of pics, this isn't the best one in terms of focus but he was posing for someone else, saw my camera and gave me a smile too. Afterwards, I ran into one of the gamers walking his dog through the shopping center. I recognized the dog first, because I'm like that.

Anyway, here's Joe!

What should I do on Saturday?[Poll #1827746]

OK, not really, but I did stop by a local memorabilia shop this evening to get autographs from a couple Ravens players. And there was no one there. I thought I'd be able to find the shop (I haven't been there before) by the line outside, but the line was inside and all of 2 people long. Not so great for the players but great for me. Tonight's esteemed guests were punter Sam Koch and safety Bernard Pollard. Yes, the Pollard who took out Tom Brady's knee a few years back. I told him I'd always be his fan for that. Bernard was Mr Personality and having a great time. And they just announced today that the store will have Joe Flacco next month, so I snagged a ticket for that while I was there. Can't really afford it, but Flacco doesn't do public signings so this is a notable occasion. We'll see if I still think so after standing in line for 3 hours.

[Error: unknown template qotd]I don't really collect anything these days - I still get games, DVDs and CDs from time to time, but I don't get much and I don't really consider them collections.

In the past, I collected baseball and hockey memorabilia (including a lot of autographs), and as a kid I collected glass animals.

Spent a lot of last night watching sports news and looking for the autographs and photos I have of the players who died. I have come to a conclusion: whatever filing system I was using for my autographs made sense to me at the time, but it surely doesn't now. I didn't expect to find my photos, but I thought I'd come up with more than 2 autographs. I couldn't even find the binders for post-2001. I did find my Wade Belak stash, however.

So, RIP to everyone on the plane and to Wade, and may something like this never, ever happen again.

Less than 24 hours til Wait Wait, and I'm fairly stumped as to who the guest will be. They don't put it on the show's web site, but it's usually a local person with some national status. They've already had Mike Rowe, Cal Ripken Jr, John Waters, Laura Lippman and last week((!) they had David Simon. I can't imagine Will Smith doing something like this, probably not Jada Pinkett either. Molly thinks perhaps Ray Lewis, and the only other people I can think of would be John Astin or Ace 'Duff' Goldman. And yes, I want to know who'll be there for autograph purposes!

Less worried about the Wait Wait gang themselves, I'm sure there'll be programs or books for purchase & signing.

Apparently, Ravens fans will restock a food bank. A local memorabilia store had a new Raven, cornerback Josh Wilson, come in to sign autographs, free if you donated at least one non-perishable food item. They collected some 50 tote bags full as of when I left. The line was almost 90 minutes long. I put in some cans of fruit and now have a signed 8x10. Good deal for everybody, I do believe.
