I Voted!

Took about 45 minutes to get through the lines, which is just amazing. Normally the line is 3 deep, tops. When I arrived today it was about 200. I'm told it was longer at 7am, I got there at 7:45. The line moved smoothly, everyone was cheerful and chatty, one guy brought his dog (not a service dog!) and by far the most advertised allegiance was the Ravens. One other very interesting thing: almost half the people in line were black. I can't recall ever having seen more than one black person voting at a time in this precinct, and indeed several of the people in line near me 'fessed up that they'd never voted before. And I must admit it was a rush to press Obama's name.

Meanwhile, if you haven't voted yet - get your backside in motion and get out there! Vote vote vote! And if you're in California, for pete's sake vote no on Proposition 8.

I voted and my polling place wasn't as busy as it was in the last presidential election but I'm not sure what time of day I voted that time. As usual, there were mainly African Americans in line in my area, nothing different there this time. It only took me about a half hour even including my walk to and from the school, but I voted at 4 p.m. so it was at a non-busy time. We also had different voting machines which took up less room than the old ones so maybe people were in and out faster than usual at my polling place.

Now, to watch the returns!
