The Highs, and the Lows

Home from Farpoint, and kind of wishing I hadn't left the con. I'll get back to that.

Picked up [livejournal.com profile] terri_osborne at the train station Friday afternoon and off we went. Hauled art to the art show, Dominion games to the game room and dragged the rest of my stuff around with me. This did not agree with my sore shoulders and I spent most of the weekend in serious pain. A lot of things tightened up, A LOT, and it's not fun. Anyway, spent so much time chatting with folks that I missed most of one panel and played but one game. Picked up copies of Ticket to Ride & 1910, but had to borrow the cash from [livejournal.com profile] jslinder as I gave most of my cash to the guys who dug us out. Did do the Lost panel and stuck around for the USS Chesapeake's Friday night mixer, which was underattended. Usually they succeed in drawing in some new people, but this year was strictly the usual suspects. But a good time was had and many obscene nun jokes told.

Saturday, I couldn't find a parking space. Finally squeezed into a tiny one at the back of the hotel, only to find that all of the doors except the main entrance were locked. So I had to hike around the entire hotel with a heavy backpack mostly on ice. Not fun. Once inside I headed over to the Hal Haag Memorial Dominion Tournament, hosted by [livejournal.com profile] jslinder . Unfortunately, it was just him and me. So much for that idea. I stayed around and he taught me Carcassonne, and we tried the Nordic version of Ticket to Ride before eventually getting back to Dominion. Then the Dr Who panel, and then autograph time. Sam Witwer was really nice, had a good time talking to him and he gave me his CD for free 'for being injured'. Got in line for Felicia Day and Mira Furlan, the line moved fast and I quickly got Mira but Felicia's line was sssllllloooowwww. [livejournal.com profile] terri_osborne snagged us a table in the restaurant but it was quite some time before I was finally able to join her and Alan Chafin for dinner. I stopped by the art room to see I'd sold 4 pieces and I gave up and bid on a pen & ink original that intrigued me greatly. Then I went home, where I taught the nephews and Mom to play Ticket to Ride. This went much better than teaching them Dominion!

But overnight, I became sick to my stomach and spent nearly the whole night in the bathroom. I had to fix the TV first thing in the morning (Mom & the boys somehow reprogrammed it) and saw Wallace & Gromit's 'A Matter of Loaf and Death' and a 'Shaun the Sheep' ep before leaving for the con, exhausted and ill. I met up with some of the Chesapeake crew for breakfast. One of these days I really must just join their organization already, I spend so much time hanging around with them. I picked up my art and my purchase, went to the Supernatural panel, and then to the gaming room. I meant to do the Dollhouse & Dr Horrible panels but a game ran over and then Terri came by interested in learning Dominion, so I just stayed put. Now things started falling apart. I tried to talk to the Shore Leave art show director about last year's problems and she was royally pissed off at me one sentence in. I hope I'm still on staff...then I forgot to pay back Jeff for the game money. I didn't realize that I hadn't until I was home, and I don't have his number. I don't usually listen to WTMD on weekends, but I heard some of the folk show as I pulled into the driveway, and just as I was about to turn off the radio, the announcer said his predecessor, Tony Sica, had died Friday. I had the radio show after Tony's for a couple years, and our paths often crossed in the local music community, so that was a shock. I'm fortunate I even heard about it. Then I went inside and discovered that after I left, the boys decided to play more Ticket to Ride. They spilled drinks all over my brand new not-entirely-paid-for game. AAWWWGG! And at least one train token wound up on the floor - CJ tried to eat it. Oh yeah, CJ - she absolutely destroyed what was left of her bed and left it in pieces all over my bedroom. I tried to clean it up before I took her downstairs for dinner and outing. So she got mad that she had to wait, and peed all over my bedroom carpet. She hasn't done that in years. So cleanup time. And I have much to do with cleaning and catching up and organizing...so I'll return to LJ tomorrow.
