gonzai: (Bad Day)

The last 24 hours have not been kind.

Yesterday afternoon, I discovered the hard way that 1) when the scanning program 'sent files to the recycle bin' it was in fact deleting them entirely. No recycle bin rescue, and 2) several documents I've scanned are MIA. This is not good. Then I spent 90 minutes, including half an hour past quitting time, on a single project, and when it was 99% done, the IT guy reset the internet in an attempt to fix another computer and boom! my whole project disappeared. Terrific.

Then I went home and was informed that I'm babysitting Wednesday. Not 'can you?' or 'would you?' just YOU ARE. I decided to sulk over ITunes and discovered it's even more messed up than I thought. When I copied the files from the old drive to the new drive, apparently about 1/3 of the files didn't copy at all. (Another third copied 2 or 3 times, but that I've already been working on.) So now I have to go back and recopy the missing files, hoping they actually copy this time, and then try to rebuild the library without losing the last 2-3 weeks of repair work I've already done on it. Oh joy. Oh yeah, my mother made dinner with milk two weeks past its expiration date, so I was ill to my tummy all night, and I sneezed so often and so hard I got a nosebleed, which hasn't happened in years.

This morning I found that Mom had left said milk on the counter all night. Maybe now we can trash it? Then she got a sales call, told the person repeatedly no but the person wasn't taking no for an answer so finally I had to grab the phone and say N.O. don't ever call us again and hang up on them. It makes me worry about what she does with telemarkets when I'm not there to scare them off. Then on my way out the door, she mentions that she has no idea how much many she has, would I balance her checkbook? Right now? No, not now. Tonight.

To the doctor's office, where I had to park in another zip code and the elevator, instead of going to the 6th floor like I asked, went to the 4th, stopped, and went back down to the lobby. Dammit. Barely got to the office before my 9:30am appointment, only to find out that despite my little appointment card saying 9:30, they put me down for 8:30 and considered me a missed appointment. I pitched a fit over that and got myself undinged for the missed apptmt, but still had to wait over an hour to be shoehorned back into their schedule. And the doctor dang near crushed my hand, the one that already hurts.

Finally at work, where reinstalling the scanner software did not alleviate the previous issues. Then my e-mail quit, somehow the server is trying to reach an address other than mine and we don't know how that happened. Shortly thereafter, my computer decided it wants nothing more to do with the internet at all. No postage, no messages, no research, much less surfing on downtime. With nothing to do except scan, the computer's next trick was to separate itself from the server. No data, no saving, everything I'd done all day - gone. I borrowed someone else's computer long enough to check e-mail - a friend died this weekend. The service? Wednesday night...when I am now babysitting, so I can't go.

I want this day over, dammit.
