Greeting from the Frozen Arctic
Feb. 4th, 2009 10:05 amAlso known as my bedroom. Mom woke me at 8:30am because I hadn't gotten up - we lost power overnight and apparently the battery backup in the alarm clock didn't have the juice to last until alarm time. It was about 48 in my bedroom at that point, as it's 26 outside and we hadn't had heat since around 3am. There was a car accident a couple blocks away, someone crashed into the transformer and totalled it (and themselves, two fatalities.) No timetable on getting the power back, so I took my mother to work. She was freaking out on top of being cold, so that was the best solution I could come up with. The dogs are crated in the basement, it's a couple degrees warmer there than the rest of the house. No shower, no food, I hope what's in the freezer & fridge survives. And I hope the computer's OK - it also has battery backup for 30 minutes, but Mom decided not to wake me when the alarm sounded so it just drained itself out. Oh joy.
