Still Here

Just an update, that I'm still here and alive (I think) but between extreme busyness and not seeing most of the big shows this weekend (only saw Terminator, so trying to avoid Dollhouse & Dr Who talk for now) I wasn't online all weekend. Will be very busy at work today and tomorrow and without internet Wednesday so don't know how much posting will be getting done.

Did get the DVD player on Saturday, at the last minute a shipment was delivered to a Baltimore area store. Also landed some HDMI cables at Baynesville that were on clearance, so those two things are taken care of. So far the DVD player rocks, upconverting perfectly and reading flash drives well. Terminator looked amazing even though it was a computer file on a flash drive. (I'll save the end of ep 'whoa' for later). The sound's a bit odd, though, everything's echoing and I can't figure out why. Also, with the surround sound on, the volume can't be adjusted. Back to the manual...

There's one thing about this whole Amazon-Fail thing (which I managed to completely miss owing to not being online all weekend) that no one seems to mention: everyone's complaining that sales rankings have disappeared. Not that the books have disappeared, or aren't available for sale anymore, but that everyone and their cousin can't see whether the book is popular or not. Do people only buy books because everyone else is buying that book? Doesn't anyone ever buy a book because they want to read it? When I go to Amazon, I already know what I want, I'm just price-shopping or looking for something that was too obscure to find locally. I've never once looked at sales rankings intentionally and they're completely irrelevant to me; apparently, I'm alone in that. I'm kinda disappointed in this 'ranking' obsession.
