It's Just Overkill
May. 19th, 2010 11:02 amBack in the days of my youth, there was a lot of music that I became totally and completely sick to death of. Between the heavy rotation of MTV, hourly playing on top 40 stations and the college station I worked for, which had a pretty miniscule library (as in mine personal collection dwarfed it), I often heard the same songs 10-12 times a day. Even if I liked it in the first place, it wasn't long before I came to hate those songs and dread ever hearing them again.
You know what? With 20+ years between those days and now, I'm finding I can stand those songs now. Sometimes I even really like them. There wasn't anything wrong with them, they were just overplayed to the umpteenth degree. It was just overkill.
I think of this because one of those songs was played on the radio as I drove to work this morning. A song by one of my favorite bands, my first obsession, Men At Work. But boy did I wind up hating the song. Now, you know, it's not their best, but it's not bad. Not bad at all. It's just 'Overkill'.
