We received a collections case today - woman bought a brand new sports car and defaulted on it - after one payment. Not sure who's dumber, her or the bank for giving her the loan. Meantime, the deadbeat works for...a collection agency. Beautiful.
Then we have the woman who keeps calling us and demanding to see her ex-husband's account information and payment history. She has the car, but he's the only one on the contract or the title and he refuses to grant us permission to show her the info. Under Maryland law, it's illegal to share, show, distributre or otherwise dessiminate any financial information about someone to a third party without the first person's permission. We have explained this to her repeatedly. She still keeps calling and demanding we show it to her anyway. Gah.
And then there's the foreclosure from hell. A corporation bought a building from private owners, then failed to pay the loan or the property taxes on the property. We were hired to foreclose, which we did, but the court lost the papers, so we had to foreclose a second time. The process wound up taking almost 18 months. Meantime the corporation stopped paying its fees to the State, so as far as Maryland is concerned, the corporation no longer exists. After 18 months of red tape and no response from the debtor (despite some 20 notices to both principals of the corporation, neither of whom ever responded) the foreclosure is finally ratified by the court in July and there is a 30 day appeal period. You got it - the debtor appealed. On the 35th day. To the wrong court. With the wrong file number. And did so on behalf of the non-existent corporation. Claiming he never received notice. And the court actually gives this moron a hearing date instead of throwing it directly. They don't even know where to file the papers and they gave him a hearing date. Un-be-frakking-lievable.
ETA: We just learned that this winner is in jail for assault as of last night.
