Somehow. Didn't get much done this week class-wise other than the polling (THANKS FLIST! You rock!) but managed to keep the DVR from overflowing. And it could have been worse - a co-worker was married this afternoon, but only invited the boss to the wedding. Thusly, I avoided a traditional Catholic wedding with full Mass, plus got an afternoon of no-boss-in-office. CJ didn't destroy anything. So, basically, I treaded water. Phew.

The second section of my class started this week and they upped the homework quotient. A LOT. Which wouldn't be such a huge problem except I'm fighting both a bladder infection and an ear infection and haven't slept in days. I expect to spend the weekend curled up in a ball somewhere trying to sleep. Meanwhile, one of the assignments requires me to ask 5 people not related to me questions about what they feed their pets. We have one pet owner in the office this week (yes, I quizzed her) but the others are out, and if I'm too zonked to go out this weekend...

So if anyone owns a cat and/or dog and is really bored in the next few days, I need to know:

Pet - dog or cat, and approximate age
Primary food you give your pet?
Where you buy it?
Why do you choose this particular kind of food for your pet?

Thanks in advance for the help! Now I'll pass out on my desk.

PS If anyone knows of any good articles or books regarding hookworms, I also have to write a report on that.

Short shots.

The WTMD countdown rolls on. It's interesting how as you go higher in the countdown, the songs get older. There were a lot of post-2000 songs in the first hundred, but now that we're in the 100-200 range it's mostly 70's. And given what we haven't heard yet, the top 100 will be heavily 60s.

FINALLY got CJ's new crate. Had to vacuum the whole upstairs, put down a chair mat I bought Tuesday (cost to refit CJ's daytime home: $120 and counting), tore down the old crate and built the new one. Owies for me. Last night, at least, no damage done.

Speaking of owies, went to the dentist yesterday. I have one lonely wisdom tooth that doesn't bother me. Until yesterday, when the dentist said it had 3 cavities in it. He shot it up with novocaine, of course, and the right side of my face is very sore and achy today.

I. HATE. STINK. BUGS. Self-explanatory.

Made a new friend at the ferret demo Monday. His name is Blaze, he is a 4 year old silver hob, and he likes me. Everytime he saw me, he went into ferret 'pick me up! pick me up!' mode. I obliged him several times :) Squirmy fellow, Blaze is, but very friendly. I wanna ferret! (I know, I know, and I'm realistic enough to know I don't have the time or money for another pet now. But doggone it, someday, I want ferrets.)

Oh, yeah. Passed the class. Section 2 starts Monday.

Managed to get caught up on the DVR recordings, but not on downloads. Lots'o'British shows to go. Didn't study for tomorrow's final quite the way I should have, but my notes are in order and my take home work is finished. It's an open final (for some odd reason) so I'm not sure really need to do anything past organizing the notes. Went gaming Friday and this afternoon, and won a game Friday (Mom also won one.) Went 20 for 20 on my college football pick 'em ballot but doing lousy on the pros. And...that's about it. I have GOT to do laundry and vacuuming and Mom's bills. Maybe post test. No homework this week and no gaming this weekend, so maybe I really will get the everyday stuff caught up.

Now off to enjoy the last day of reading the Sun online. Bastards decided that, effective tomorrow, you have to pay to read the paper online. Even if you're a print subscriber (which I have been for 40 years) you have to buy a whole new subscription if you want to look at the website. I think they'll be getting a very rude surprise tomorrow when no one looks at the site again.

I wish the instructor had told us to bring a laptop or other such device tonight. I just handwrote a few thousand words, with my gimpy hand. And that's half of what I was supposed to write, I used shorthand, left out prepositions and often just plain skipped it. Today was anatomy day so most of the material was stuff I learned in high school biology; throw in college biology and anatomy and why was I here tonight? Oh yeah, to total my hand. Icing it well before bedtime.

On the other hand, we were given a quiz last week. If you got less than 70%, you failed. And had to stay late to conference with the instructor. I had a 95%, so the second class was over I boogied. But of the 10 people in the class...only 3 others left. 60% failure rate? Seriously? And while I don't think I failed today's quiz, I didn't do as well, either. I studied the notes from last week; she quizzed on us on two weeks ago. Feh. So if I just did OK...ouch for my classmates.

Uncomfortably awaiting class no. 2. I'm still quite peeved about my work being rejected for properly using a Latin term. And my hand hurts like a... which should make handwriting interesting, my back is killing me, my legs are killing me, esp my ankles and big toes, I didn't sleep worth a darn last night and I forgot my parking pass, which means another day of parking in Siberia, this time probably in the rain. Yippee.

At least , I came by the ankle and toe issues honorably. We tried to go to a dog fundraiser yesterday and found the ground mushy and lumpy; after numerous twists and turned ankles, Mom didn't make it out of the parking lot and I barely made it far enough to buy tickets we did not use. (Gotta support the dog charities...) So we looked at some open houses in the area instead, where I promptly failed to notice some rooms were a step down from the rest of the house. Jammed and slammed both feet. I never said I wasn't a klutz. Nice houses though. Liked them all. Esp. the one where we were on the deck and were buzzed by a hawk. All dream houses though, they'd require a lottery win. Dream on.

My veterinary assistant class? We're supposed to do online work, mostly consisting of having discussions with each other on a (very poorly designed) discussion board. After 5 days, a whopping 2 of us bothered to post there, myself and the only other over-30 student. My 500 word post was rejected by the course instructor as unacceptable. Why? I used a word she believes doesn't exist. 'Sans'. Yes, she rejected one of two students who bothered doing the assignment because the student used a Latin word, correctly I might add.

I'm not feeling optimistic.

Me, toasted. I was tired to begin with; 3+ hours in a freezing room, not helping.

I just realized that because of the class, I will see no Monday Night Football this year. Little if any Sunday, too, as I'll need the sleep. Bummer.

Definitely, no gaming tomorrow. Not after another 8 hours of it today. Although I played rather well last night and today, with a rare win in Stone Age and a lot of high finishes. Tomorrow will be football and catching up on television before I start the classes Monday and put myself behind the time-eight ball.

The doctor officially released me from treatment for my hand today. I don't think it's anywhere near healthy, but the doctor, the PT and I all agree, the PT isn't making a measurable difference any more. So that's done, and now to try to get back to working on my shoulder. Couldn't get an appointment for my shoulder for a month, and it'll probably be another month after that before I can get into PT, but that gives me at least a month with no medical expenses.

Oh, and I sent off the registration for the veterinary assistant program today.
