Shore Leave - the Middle

Saturday, I was late. I wanted to go to the 10am Dr Who panel but didn't get to the hotel until exactly 10am (when I encountered
drewshi in the parking lot while I searched for a space - he was on the panel, so he was late too!) and I wound up parking in another zip code. I was so late I didn't check to see where the panel was, just went to the hallway where most of them are...and couldn't find it. I did find Terri Osborne who was also on the panel and late to it, so I tagged along with her to one of the ballrooms. Not sure I've ever seen a regular panel in a ballroom. Then
puppetmaker40 also rolled in, also late to the panel. And towards the end,
neadods appeared - no one told her she was on the panel! So most of the panelists and a fair chunk of the audience needed their own TARDIS just to make the panel. Heh. Later I went to a Lost panel, and that was it for me - it was otherwise all art show, all day until it closed up at 9:30. I went up to the gaming room with
jslinder with the intent of teaching Terri to play Dominion; instead, they joined a wacky poker game and I joined up with game room gods Hal & Joe to teach an assortment of teenagers how to play. The kids then promptly beat us like rented mules. Figures. I wound up staying until well after midnight gaming. Curse you, Hal &
jslinder , you've turned me into a gamer! ;)
Anyway, rest of the day was art show, not that
jslinder and I didn't manage to play the expansion set of Dominion, 'Intrigue', in the art show. Yes, we were supposed to be working. We're bad staff people. Saw many, many folks there over the course of the day, including Silver Cyanne and most of the Eastern Media Con's con committee, plus a retired service dog named Cheyenne who really liked me, and an infinite number of babies. Apparently Shore Leave members spent the past year spawning. Artist Vanora Hagen and her hubby Paul won the 'youngest member' award with 7 week old Rachel, who alternated her time eating ASD Rosy's shirt and being entertained by me. Yes, me. As long as I can hand 'em back when they need a diaper change, I like playing with babies. We made a few quick sales, clearing out most of the Clemens and Mather art, but most of the rest was regular bidding. Come the end of the show, there were only 8 pieces for the auction, half of which were Clemens pieces. And then half the pieces went to the bid sheet and none had particularly interesting bidding battles. The more interesting battles were trying to kick the previous panel out of the room (they stayed 10 minutes late before we got insistent), getting the hotel to put a ramp from the hallway to the room (which they should have done over 24 hours sooner and they had been repeatedly asked to do so but hadn't) and one really cranky person who was mad - at me - because the auction was starting late. But on the bright side - I managed to get my Theresa Mather original, for minimum bid! Party on for me! Finally!
So that was Saturday.
