The Universe Strikes Again
Jul. 16th, 2010 01:39 pmIt's still after me.
First I order a salad from the restaurant across the street. Looks fine...until I get a forkful of twist-tie in it. Followed shortly thereafter by a couple of fruit flies. Exit one lunch.
Then I go to plug in the paper folding gadget. When I push in the plug, sparks shoot out of the machine from all sides. (Miraculously, I am barely singed, but I may have wet myself). That's the end of the machine. And now me and the arthritic hand get to hand fold 200 papers.
Somebody doesn't like me...

Writer's Block: Capital offense

Tough one. Do I believe there are people who, because of their actions, have forfeited the right to continue living in society? Yes. Definitely. Can I determine with specificity who those people are? No. And no one else can make that determination either. One person may feel that nothing short of genocide warrants the death penalty, while another (and indeed we do have some societies that are close to this) may believe looking at someone the wrong way is a capital offense. Every person will have a different view of where the line falls. Something as final as death deserves absolute certainty, and there's no such thing as absolute certainty.

Caution: Naked Dog
Jul. 16th, 2010 06:05 pmPoor Sky. (For those new to my LJ, Sky is the golden retriever/Great Pyrenees mix who belongs to my supervisor and serves as the office alarm system.) He went for a shave in May, and the groomer barely trimmed him. So his mama told the groomer to 'make him look like a lab' this time.
Normally, he looks like this:

But now, he looks like this:

Poor naked doggie.
