Whither 911 (the phone number)
Dec. 6th, 2010 10:17 amYou've heard the story about the guy who calls the suicide hotline and they put him on hold? Well, last night, I called 911. And they hung up on me. This is not encouraging.
FTR, I was calling because the people across the street were having a fight on their front porch, so loudly I could hear them over the game, and when I looked outside, I saw the wife grab the husband by the throat and start choking him. He tried to push her away and she threw him headfirst into the wall. While I was calling 911, he shoved her off the porch. I get the best neighbors, not. But 911 hung up on me twice, and the third time, while they answered, they never sent the cops over. Real effectiveness there.
