I was concerned about my netbook post-storm - it was unplugged during the storm, but it wouldn't charge yesterday, claiming it wasn't plugged in to an outlet (it was). Tried several outlets, same thing. Didn't have any more cords like the ones the netbook uses, so I couldn't check those. Took it to Best Buy after we did the house-looking thing and the Geek Squad tried it on a few different outlets - it worked on some but not others. So they sent me home and I tried a few more outlets and eventually found one the netbook liked. Sheesh. But at least it wasn't toasted.

Meanwhile we talked with the neighbors and have a rough plan regarding the downed trees. So we seem to be sorted as far as the storm goes. Unfortunately we have a week of 95-100 degree temps and possible storms every day. Spiffy.

And I'm thinking that's a good thing.

Today on my way back from the dentist, I decided to swing through the old neighborhood, where I lived from ages 2 to 15. The old house is looking pretty cruddy, but more notably, there are at least 30 bags of garbage in the yard. Lovely. Meanwhile, there's a several block stretch of the old street including the house that is covered in (illegal) signs declaring that if Baltimore doesn't come to Jesus, God will will drown us all in hellfire. Nothing like seeing that to make the current neighborhood suddenly look not quite so bad.

In my house browsing, I discovered there is a road in the area called 'Nuthatch Court'. Really. And I suppose it would be appropos if we were to live on it...

If I have amassed enough points on the quizzes and tests to pass the course, why do I still have to do a report? (Update: Grades just posted. Final tally 289/300. 100 on the report.)

While I'm on that one, why do I need to prove I've graduated high school when they're going to run a background check on me anyway? Shouldn't they find that in the check?

I'm losing my patience with GEICO. They have raised my premium $45-$60 each term the last two years, raising my overall price more than a third over what it was; I haven't had any accidents or tickets. They say it's 'cost of business in Maryland'. I think it may cost them MY business in Maryland.

The ne'er do well family across the street appears to have moved out. I vote for the house to be torn down. They've had three bad (often criminal) tenants and a lot of unattended vacancy there in the last ten years. Enough already.

Busy, busy days for tired, tired me. I hate shovelling snow. I hate neighbors who shovel their snow at 2am. I've about had it with all these debtors who are convinced they have a consitutional right to not make their car payments, but can still keep the car. I made it to gaming last night, where the professional computer types conferred and concluded that my computer's motherboard is failing. Not surprised but didn't really want to hear that, either. I do want my mother to just let me pay the bills already, as she's a disaster in progress when it comes to her checkbook and the bills (she didn't pay the phone/cable bill for several months; I got that fixed hours before we would have been cut off.)

And now I find I'm not a Sagittarius after all. (Those who have experienced my stubborness will beg to differ with the astrologers on this point.) Evidently I am in fact a Scorpio. Whoopee.

You've heard the story about the guy who calls the suicide hotline and they put him on hold? Well, last night, I called 911. And they hung up on me. This is not encouraging.

FTR, I was calling because the people across the street were having a fight on their front porch, so loudly I could hear them over the game, and when I looked outside, I saw the wife grab the husband by the throat and start choking him. He tried to push her away and she threw him headfirst into the wall. While I was calling 911, he shoved her off the porch. I get the best neighbors, not. But 911 hung up on me twice, and the third time, while they answered, they never sent the cops over. Real effectiveness there.
