Not a good beginning, that's for certain. First thing I heard on the radio: the water pumping station burned overnight. Guesstimate is 200,000 people without water today. Most of the schools near me closed. But the two closest weren't, so I very cautiously turned on the faucet. Got water. Not much pressure, but water. Did my usual morning thing to the extent possible as did Mom. We'll get back to this.

The computer was having fits. I would have had better speed with dialup, and the battery backup kept squalling at random intervals for no reason I could figure. I gave up and turned off the whole system. Now I have a ticked off mother, who doesn't seem to realize that in order to play games, she'll have to listen to that thing squall all day. Then I hear it'll be 92 degrees (!!!) today. It was pretty hot upstairs yesterday, so I figure I better run the AC lest CJ get cooked. It isn't plugged in. Tried to plug it in and discovered (I forget every year) it needs a grounding adapter. Couldn't find a free one in the whole house. Had to negotiate with the mother to remove an adapter from something else. Finally get an adapter, and the AC still doesn't want to be plugged in. Took a lot of work.

Then to work. Or trying to go to work. The aforementioned fire/water situation shut down a few east-west routes, so the remaining ones were packed solid. And the person ahead of me at the drivethru was an idiot, a slow idiot. Then while tooling down the road at 50mph (the speed limit) I go around a curve and - the lane is closed, by a cop. Who should know better than to close a lane on a blind curve on a road posted 50. Apparently my brakes are good, but my nerves didn't need it. Then as I'm chewing on a mouthful of breakfast sandwich, a sneeze comes out of nowhere. My car and clothes are completely coated in breakfast sandwich now. Finally I get to work (15 minutes late) and go online to see what the deal is with the water. My house IS in the shutdown zone, and it seems the water Mom & I used this morning, thinking we were outside the zone? Was the last water we're getting until they get the thing running again, around 8pm tonight. Just great. (The office turns out to be 2 blocks outside the zone. That was close.)
