Weekend Roundup
Nov. 24th, 2008 02:53 pmNot just any weekend; my birthday weekend. Should be fun, right? Well, sometimes.
I couldn't find a show to do on Saturday, so I agreed to spend part of my big day at Jack's all-star soccer tournament. Come day of game, it's 36 degrees and the wind's gusting up something awful. There's no place to park, so I dropped off Mom and went to the next zip code to park. No one seemed to know which field was which, so I wandered all over looking for the right place. When I found it, the previous game hadn't ended yet so we had to wait. Then Jack's team proceeded to get thoroughly blown out, while the family froze. Jeff was so cold he started crying. By the end of the game I couldn't feel my legs. Spiffy. Meanwhile I'd dropped off Baby Blue for an oil change; the garage called to say that my front tires were a mess, with chunks of tread missing. Not good for a front-wheel drive right before winter. Turns out the tires for Baby Blue are $200, each. Eep. There goes the Christmas budget.
We did manage a pretty good birthday dinner - Mom took me to Red Lobster, where I had lobster, snow crab and a lot of shrimp. And plenty left over for eating the next day. Then we went home and crashed in front of the NCIS marathon and a bummer of a Terps game. Sunday we rushed to do grocery shopping before the Ravens game, and went over to Office Depot to get my birthday present - a new, Canon Powershot 1110. A camera with 9mp (the current one has 4) and 10x zoom (as opposed to 3). Very niiicceee. Very complicated. The user manual left my head spinning. And the memory card is missing the little 'lock', so it's convinced it's locked, so I have to go back tonight and exchange it. But the camera should be a fun toy. Speaking of fun, there was the Ravens. Hoo boy, fun fun. The team was pretty much scoring at will for the second half. And how about an NFL record touchdown run from Ed Reed? Awesome. And the game also produced my new icon. McNabb didn't have a good day :) Got almost caught up on tapes and making ornaments to finish up the weekend; now I gotta do something about the laundry. Yay.
