My Solution to AIG Bonuses

Yes, I'm infuriated. But I think I have a reasonable solution to the problem.
Pay out the bonuses, but instead of paying them to the employees, donate the bonus to a charity in the employee's name. The employee can choose the charity subject to approval (ie, it can go to the Red Cross, but not the kid's college fund). The bonuses are paid out, so no breach of contract. The employees can take it as a tax break and if they try to object to it going to charity, they'll be publicly outed as greedy bastards. The charities get some very much needed cash in these hard times. The taxpayers can feel like they got at least something out of the deal (the charities got some help out of it.)
Never happen, right?
