My new fandom phrase is 'GIP'. Using it here :)
More other driver observations: I already knew no car in Maryland has a turn signal. Today I received further proof that no car in Maryland has an ashtray. Six cars passed me in traffic; three of the drivers chucked cigarette butts out their window and onto my car. (Expletive deleted.) My car really doesn't have an ashtray, or a cigarette lighter. I bought it from a Porsche/Audi dealership where it had been a loaner, and I noticed the missing pieces when I test drove it. (I miss those pieces only from an aesthetic standpoint, it's a little weird having an empty socket in the middle of the console.) The salesman said it's in their loaner contract that you can't smoke in the loaner, but people kept doing it anyway. So they started removing the lighter and ashtray from the loaners as soon as they bought them.
I am so not a morning person. I had to switch my chiropractic to morning session, because it's half the price of evening session, and managed to be 20 minutes late to the first one. Getting up early is just not my thing...
Mom's birthday is Saturday and we still don't have a day/time/place for her dinner. It's Baltimore Restaurant Week, which means certain, mostly upscale places in town are offering fixed price meals well below the usual price, so I'm trying to get her to pick one of those. I've only been to two, both French and both via the office holiday dinner. So I'd like to check out one or two of these.
The shower is fixed. The threads on the faucet had worn away and disconnected from the pipe, so it just need a new faucet. It's nice to bathe again.
Greatest American Dog: I really felt for the girl who had to make Leroy 'angry'. I can't imagine how I would make CJ 'angry', unless I put the Roomba in front of her. Not surprised Tillman is gone though.
As part of the Browncoat dinner last Sunday, we wound up seeing 'Hancock'. We went to see 'WALL*E', but it was 2 hours before the next showing so we switched plans. 'Hancock' was a good movie for the first half and a big honkin' cliche the second half. I really enjoyed the 'superhero as misanthrope' concept and of course Will Smith sold it perfectly. Even the mid-movie twist was clever. But how they handled said twist - ick. Uh-oh, better insert wanton destruction, special effects, angst, romance and kitchen sink quick, this is a summer blockbuster! So, half a good movie.
Y’know, I’ve seen some rather unusual things in my morning commute. But today was the first time I hit a deer.
You see, it’s 9am. It’s bright and sunshiny. It’s a busy road just yards from the city line. They were does, so presumably not completely crazy/sex-driven. WTF are a herd of deer doing crossing the bleeping road?
Fortunately I know the rule about ‘see one deer, there’s more around’, so when I saw the lead doe trot across the street, I hit the brakes even though she was not in my way. I was going about 20mph when another one burst out of the brush. My side mirror and it’s face/neck had an unscheduled meeting and then both were redirected, the mirror against the car and the deer back whence it came, with the rest of its group. Only apparently damage to me or the deer was having the crap scared out of us. However, the numbnut behind me was too busy on the phone to notice and nearly rear-ended me. Moron.
