And Snowmageddon Continues
Feb. 11th, 2010 02:21 pmOff work today, just doing the voice mail thing from time to time. We're supposed to be dug out sometime this afternoon, so I can work tomorrow, pick up
terri_osborne at the train station and then it's Farpoint time! Watching 'Sophie's Choice' right now, first time I ever have. Started with Leverage -( Minor Leverage spoiler ). It's rather weird today, though, because the ice and snow is coming off the house in huge chunks. Huge noisy chunks. Freaks out the dogs.

Snowmageddon Continues
Feb. 10th, 2010 04:46 pmThe one good thing about the awning coming down - it's the only thing here that really could come down. The roof is pitched, and everything else around here has 4 points of support. We need that, because Mom dug a small pit in an attempt to get Roxie to do her business. Within an hour it was completely gone. I had to dig a new one so CJ could do her thing. Half an hour later it's almost gone. It's about 4 feet deep on the deck now. The van has disappeared again. No photos, because the awning blocks the steps - we can't get out. The kid who dug out us out Monday, I've asked him to come tomorrow. I sure hope he can, so I can get out Friday. But I'm giving up on Thursday already.
Oh, and Mom is sick of watching Spooks.
Oh, and Mom is sick of watching Spooks.
We have a metal awning over our side porch. Or rather, we used to have an awning there. There was so much ice and snow on it that it was sagging dangerously. So I tried to knock the icicles off of it with a broom handle. Instead, the whole thing came down on top of me. There is one rusted screw (of the original 4) still holding the thing onto the side of the house, but otherwise it's upside down and blocking the porch. And we won't get into poor CJ, who was exploring the yard at the time and is now terrified to come back in the door. I'm bruised and my back and hands are killing me. Just terrific.
Going Home Craziness
Feb. 9th, 2010 08:57 pmGetting from work to home was veeerrryy innnteerrrestinng. Mom has been,,,exceedingly cranky. I figured she needed reading material and booze, and we needed a break from each other. Therefore...
I stalled off leaving work so I'd have more work to bring home with me (is that weird or what? But I'll be stuffing envelopes tomorrow.) I was parked in, so naturally just as I was about to leave, the attorney who had me parked in got a phone call. Half an hour later...then as I was pulling out of the lot, my left windshield wiper blew out. So I drive, in the snow, with no wipers, straight to Midas. Fortunately my main mechanic man was on duty and not very busy. Ten minutes later I have new wipers and readjusted wiper arms. While waiting, I considered cancelling my PT appointment. Decided not to. While I'm paying, the PT calls ME to cancel. The therapist wanted out of tonight's schedule. So that at least was out. Then to the library, where one of my Mom's best friends, whom I'd hoped to see, had been told not to come in because of the weather. But my father's buddy was working, and he helped me chase down 6 mystery novels for Mom, and I picked 2 biographies. Next stop was Safeway, where there were no eggs, darn few milks or ice creams and I snagged the last loaf of rye bread. Then next door to the liquor store, to get lottery tickets for me and Bloody Mary fixings for Mom. Last stop: McDonald's. I wasn't cooking. That was one huge arse crate of stuff I hauled into the house. But Mom is happy for the first time in days and I'm in until Friday, most likely.

Snow time...
I'm Finished
Feb. 7th, 2010 02:04 pmNot finished shovelling, mind you; I went out the front instead of the side, and managed to dig to Mom's car. That's it. And I'm exhausted and hurting in a major kind of way, so that's it. I can do no more. The cars and the driveway remain thoroughly covered. I am thoroughly shamed, because my 80 year old next-door neighbor with two artificial knees did her whole driveway (she has a carport, so the steps and car don't have to be cleaned.) But I can't move my arms anymore so I'm done.
Report from Snowmageddon
Feb. 6th, 2010 03:11 pmStill coming down. And it took until a few minutes ago to get CJ to poop or Roxie to leave the porch, at all. The good thing is I discovered TCM has some beauts on today - which may derail my plans to get cracking on Spooks, but can't really complain either. Just finished 'The Magnificent Seven', which I'd never seen. 'The Great Escape' is on at 5, I saw that one a year ago and I own it on DVD, but my mother adores the film and of course, James Garner, so looks like we're watching it. Then there's 'Bullitt' and 'French Connection', neither of which I've seen. Should keep us well occupied today.
Meanwhile, I did try some snow photography, to give some idea of where we are. I think there's about 2 feet now.
( Our cars as of 3pm. Mine is closer to the street. )
( The neighbor's cars. I think. The mirror is the only clue. )
( The porch railing. Bear in mind this is under an awning. )
( My van. Maybe. )
