Thoughts on Early American History
Sep. 7th, 2008 10:58 amSince I first read about early American history, I've thought that Aaron Burr had gotten an unfair shake from history. The more I learn about Alexander Hamilton, the more I think Burr did the fledgling nation a huge favor by killing Hamilton. I only wish the duel had happened years earlier, before Hamilton did the damage that he did.
Watching 'John Adams' this weekend has done nothing to dispel this idea. Hamilton was willing to let the young Republic die to feed his own ego. Surely we could find someone better for the ten dollar bill? How about Mark Twain or Will Rogers?
On second thought, I'll shush. People would probably insist on putting Reagan on the ten.
