Not having the best of days here.
Literally here, it's not been the best of days at work. We were supposed to get new computers yesterday, but the computer guys were running late, so it was switched to this morning, but they were late again and didn't get here until this afternoon. I've been having computer problems the last week, but didn't deal with them since I was supposed to have a new compie this week.
Today has been nothing but problems. Everything I scanned yesterday is coming up as a corrupted file, which means 1) I can't shred anything 2) I have to rescan everything (and one job took 2 hours) and 3) nothing can be processed into the office until this is resolved. Except we can't figure out what is wrong. And as often as not, my computer a) won't start b) won't restart c) won't access the server d) won't access the hard drive e) won't run any programs or f) some combination of above. I'm going nuts.
Just to make life a wee bit more interesting, last week I found on Ebay a listing for a collector's set of the new Dr. Who, all three seasons in one box set. I couldn't find any red flags re the set or the seller, and the price was much lower than the going rate for the BBC sets, so I bid on it. I lost. I promptly got a 'second chance offer' and took it. The set arrived Tuesday in a very timely manner. I opened it and popped in some of the Season 3 discs, as I needed a Captain Jack fix. The discs played fine. Wednesday morning I left positive feedback for the Seller. When I got home Wednesday evening, Mom wanted to see the Season 1 Jack eps because she doesn't get the whole immortality thing. So I put in the disc and...it's not NTSC formatted. Tried a different player. Same thing. Tried all 23 discs in the player - seems the Season 3 discs are NTSC formatted, but the Season 1 & 2 discs are not. The Seller's ad specifically stated that the discs were NTSC formatted and playable on Region 1 players. Obviously, not true. I e-mailed the Seller last night. No answer. Sent another message today. Only response was a copy of the original listing stating that if I opened the package, it was mine no returns. Sent back another message pointing out that they had inaccurately described the item in the listing. Still waiting for an answer.
Guess it's a good thing that 1) I used PayPal 2) used a credit card and 3) work for a collections attorney. Either they take back the set and refund me or outright refund me, or they're getting a rude surprise.
