Surprisingly not bad at all, considering it's July and raining pretty much nonstop. The rain stopped this morning, and while it threatened to resume most of the day, it didn't. We were on a pavilion and the light was a bit dim under cover, but otherwise very nice. Because it was so cloudy, it didn't get hot until late in the day when the sun finally peeked out. So except for pink on the back of my neck, it wasn't summery at all. Got in a few games, mostly with folk I know but at one point I invited two strangers to play with us...only to discover the strangers were actually the son and daughter-in-law of a couple I'm friends with! Meanwhile I successfully avoided the people I don't like, commiserated with a friend who lost her job this week, ate too much, played with Dexter and while I only won one game, I finished a strong second in all of the others. A good day. I needed one. I have few hopes for tomorrow.

Just home from Game Days, which I left early because I went to the GCOM meeting that ran more than twice as long as they expected, plus I was in the world's most uncomfortable seat. My back is killing me now. Matches my knees, after I walked across a major road during rush hour to pick up my dinner. Hey, if I can see the place, I see no point in driving to it. Besides dinner, I picked up a couple goodies for myself (a GCOM t-shirt and 'Struggle for Catan'), a huge pile of games for the nephews to be divided between birthdays and Christmas, and I started the day by taking CJ to the vet, which surely wasn't cheap. So I blew bucks today. But CJ has a clean bill of health for at least a year and I'm set for all nephew-related gifts for 2012. Phew.

Back there tomorrow, hopefully for some games for me from the second-hand shop.

Post-Roast

That's inaccurate, actually - we didn't roast at the GCOM Picnic, despite it being in mid-July, although it did get rather warm towards the end of the day as the sun started to reach inside the pavilion. Mostly it was mid-80s, no humidity, brilliant sunshine, and enough of a breeze to send playing cards flying everywhere. The people were nice, the games were fun, the food was bountiful, the facilities excellent. The picnic benches got pretty old after a couple hours, otherwise a lovely day.

Oh, and I engineered an outright slaughter at 7 Wonders. 75 points for me, 53 for the 2nd place guy. Muwhahaha!

Mostly on the same game. Did the GCOM Elkridge thing and was immediately recruited into a game of 'Arabian Nights', which one person later referred to as 'the bastard child of a Euro board game and Dungeons & Dragons'. Yeah, that's about right. If you need 3 people, 3 separate dice, a card, a handbook and a manual to figure out what happened on your turn, the game might have crossed over the line. Took almost 5 hours to play, which is more than twice my personal limit for a game. Got in a few normal games afterward and plenty of food, and on the drive home the radio treated me to a special on Bob Marley, so the day was rescued :)

Other than seeing a movie, it hasn't been dull. CJ finally got a bath yesterday - her breath is still awful and we won't get into her farts, but in between smells much better. Did laundry, cleaned up more of ITunes, etc. Hauled Mom and Dave to a GCOM event in the area - that's the local gaming community. Learned Transamerica and Winners Circle; Mom & Dave learned Campaign Manager. I kicked patootie at Ticket To Ride, was creamed at Can't Stop. Met a lot of nice people. We'll be back, I do believe. And Dave's interested in Alphabet Soup now.

Today I indulged Mom with her renovation projects. We shopped for TV stands and multimedia stands (we looked at them online Friday night) and found ones we liked at Best Buy. I can't get the TV stand out of the car for the life of me but the shelves made it indoors. Then we shopped rugs and found some acceptable to Mom, so they've been ordered. Then the movie. Also got the recycling out before I went kerplooie. We were supposed to do grocery shopping but I don't know when we'll get to that, not least because we can't put anything in my car for now. Dunno how much Oscars we'll watch, but we'll see.

And that's the weekend.
