gonzai: (Yikes)
I've spent much of the week trying to find the source of a beeping sound in the house. Doesn't matter what room you're in, it sounds like in it's in another one. Originally it beeped a couple times a day, but by today it was up to every ten minutes. I thought it might be the smoke alarm, but I changed the battery in it and that had no effect. Still beeping. Today I tried, for the heck of it, installing a new battery backup on the computer. The old one wasn't beeping...not when I was near it...but there hasn't been a beep since then. Fingers crossed.

Because now I have a new, much more annoying problem. The TV's volume has a 50 point scale. Usually we have it between 20 and 30, depending on the show, etc. Well, tonight the volume started going up, rapidly, by itself. No one anywhere near the TV or the remote, sometimes it jumped to 35, sometimes 50, sometimes...100. Besides being really loud, we don't know how it managed to go to double what we thought it could do. Also, to drop it back to normal, I have to press the button once per number. 70 times is a lot. This started during the football game and by the time OUAT came on, it was doing it every minute. I took the batteries out of the remote, but that didn't help. I think the TV is possessed.

Switched to movie mode today, more or less (there was also football involved - much better on fantasy this week, and OUAT - um...what?). It literally took years, but I finally finished watching '2001: A Space Odyssey'. I've tried to watch it before without getting more than a few minutes into section 2. The last several weeks I've been watching 10 minutes here or there. At long last, I finished it today. And boy was it a chore. I didn't get it and I didn't like it (other than the music). But it has been seen.

Meanwhile, believe it or not, this Baltimorean has never seen 'Diner'. Bits here and there, but less than half of it total and never in order. By chance I saw it was on last night (on PBS, of all places) and recorded it. It was thoroughly bleeped, but otherwise legit. Naturally I spent half the movie playing spot the location (the horse farm where Boogie tries to pick up the rider is right by my brother's in-laws place; the Tudor-style building across from the manger is near the office and contains the office's bank.) It was perfectly acceptable as a movie, but not up to the reputation it seems to hold around here. Filming in Baltimore isn't unusual anymore and frankly, 'Diner' is a film for guys. But the music was great, again.

Up - I finally made it into the gym for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks. I still feel like crud, but I've put off going to the gym due to illness for so long that I went anyway. I did survive. Now the problem will be finding another time I can go.

Down - I was reading a review of Once Upon A Time...and some jackass spoiled Boardwalk Empire on the OUAT board. Great.
