Barely. Three nights of not sleeping well, CJ woke me at 6:30 yesterday and 6:15 today...bleah. The little guys are over right now, but thoroughly entranced in the Wallace & Gromit DVD I gave them as a joint birthday present. Good thing, they don't seem to like their individual presents. Or the games I had to play, or the food Grammy made them, or the dogs...just generally cantankerous this morning. And their parents are late. Should have been here half an hour ago. Yay.

Yesterday was a game day in the neighborhood - Dave & I managed to beat the food, drinks, one host and most of the players. Whoops. Got in plenty though - Transamerica, Winner's Circle (I won, despite scoring negatively in round one and barely in round 2), Ticket to Ride USA (won again), Ticket - Switzerland (finally, I can read the board!), and we learned High Society and Underground (Dave won those.) Also watched the Derby - talk about slop. Glad I didn't have to step in that. Yuck. My pick, the filly of course, showed.

I think the parents are here.

Let's see if my photos feel like working now...

A whole lotta doggie photos. )

Stopped back at Game Days to pick up a couple games from the dealers and babysat Mom on a trip through Home Depot, but otherwise spent the whole day at the dog show. Got a massage while I was there, really needed that, plus picked up a new toy CJ is quite enamored of and some smoked deer bones to keep both dogs occupied when the general contractor comes back. Also was well slimed by a few pups and used as support  prop by others. Good to be needed! The photos are being a bit obstreperous but I hope to be able to post a few pics tonight or tomorrow night.

Had to get up an hour early so I could move the remaining items of furniture and pack away CJ, then waited for the floor guys to make sure we're all on the same page, then went to the doctor. Stopped for breakfast on the way and didn't notice until much later that they shorted me $4. The doctor gave me a cortisone shot in the shoulder, which, by the way, hurts. CJ barked at every pedestrian & motorcyclist the whole way to work, then once there, she knew where she was and she wanted in the office. And Sam & Sky wanted out to see her. Not now, gang. So all 3 dogs whined and cried at length. Meanwhile, when the floor guy originally came to the house, he told us he couldn't do anything about some of the stains (the last cat had issues and used pee to express them.) We told him we had figured as much, don't worry about it. He calls me on the cell to tell me he can't do anything about the stains (didn't we cover that already?) and left a voice mail. The phone is now ringing, over and over again, that I have a voice mail. I deleted the message and deleted the notice 3 times and it still keeps ringing to let me know I have a voice mail. 'scuse me while I smash this thing...

Man sues Petsmart after slipping in dog poop )

I'm pretty sure poop is an assumed risk in PetSmart...or anywhere else a dog goes, literally.

Specifically, the last weekend?

Every year, Maryland's biggest dog show is at the Fairgrounds that weekend.
Every year, Frederick, Bowie & Delmarva are all home that weekend.
There are usually 3 conventions I'd like to go to that weekend (2 this year).
Plaza's 'Celebration of Color' (aka free art stuff!) is always that weekend.
And Jeff's birthday is that weekend.

So, no baseball that weekend, and once I finally work out the balance between art, games & dogs, the whole cart may be upset by a birthday event. Spiffy.

Dogs, dogs, dogs and more dogs! Although I don't mind cats, and wouldn't have a problem co-habitating with a cat person as long as our respective pets got along. I suppose the short version is cats are OK, dogs are wonderful. Dogs openly love and adore you, and show you every chance they get. Free nonstop affection. Who could ask for anything more?

Stopped by PetSmart today to pick up some dog food, and in the process met a very friendly Dachshund. So I got down on the floor and he licked and sniffed and I said 'Who's a good boy? Are you? Are you a good boy?' And the little boy holding his leash, maybe 4, answered "No, he craps in the house."

Ah, truth.

Yes, I finally finished watching the Westminster Kennel Club show last night. I was mostly very pleased, since the Non-Sporting judge didn't pick a poodle (a miracle if there ever was one) and several of my favorite breeds won their groups. I've always liked whippets and dobermans, and I'm very fond of Brittany spaniels. How could you not love that face? The doberman's call name is CJ, and everytime the announcers mentioned it, my CJ started searching for whoever it was that called her. Meanwhile, I also liked Sadie's reaction to winning ('pay attention to me, Daddy, RIGHT NOW!') and the Lakeland Terrier that wasn't about to let the judge handle his family jewels.

Now I have to try to catch up with everything I didn't watch this week. Meep.

Off work today, just doing the voice mail thing from time to time. We're supposed to be dug out sometime this afternoon, so I can work tomorrow, pick up [livejournal.com profile] terri_osborne at the train station and then it's Farpoint time! Watching 'Sophie's Choice' right now, first time I ever have. Started with Leverage -Minor Leverage spoiler ). It's rather weird today, though, because the ice and snow is coming off the house in huge chunks. Huge noisy chunks. Freaks out the dogs.

My shoulders are absolutely killing me. It hurts just to sit, but any kind of movement - like the kind I have to do to take apart documents or scan them - is just excruciating. And I have 4.5 hours to go before I get to try to drive with said shoulders. Ow. And my hands aren't much better. Ow.

Almost done my next drawing, of new Who companion Amy. Just needs a fresh look today in case there's something I missed. Probably should look at it on the computer, often things look completely different on the screen than live. I was going to do Abby from NCIS next, but, considering the guests at Farpoint, now I'm thinking Dr Horrible instead and Abby if I have time.

I am increasingly of a mind to go to the World of Pets Sunday instead of the dog show Saturday. More expensive and absurdly large show, but closer to home and critters of all stripes, not just dogs. But the art needs to progress first.

The biggest hazard for getting things done this weekend? Yup. Ticket to Ride. Played many, many games. Did not win many, but was second several times. Obsess obsess obsess...

They're everywhere today!

The deer returned to our yard this morning - 4 of them, 3 of which were big or bigger. I'm thinking bucks, but I wasn't close enough to confirm. The fourth was playing more than eating and pretty small, I'm thinking last year's fawn. They were scared off not by me trying to photograph them, but a neighbor closing a car door. Oh well.

Finally brought the camera to work for a piccie of poor pathetic Sam...and he is cone-free today. Oh well redux.

While wrestling with CJ this morning, I put my ear to her tummy. Her little digestive system sounds like a Geiger counter in a power plant. Wonder what she ate besides kibble today...

I haven't decided between the (free) dog show Saturday, or the World of Pets Expo Sunday. The weather will likely decide. Meanwhile, however, I noted the Expo include a seminar entitled "Speed Dating for Guinea Pigs". I guess what comes naturally doesn't come naturally for GPs?

Sam, one of our office dogs, came to work today wearing a blue bonnet. A cone of silence. The hat of shame. Yep, an Elizabethan collar, to keep him away from his ear infection.

Sam is a moron on his best days, but now, he looks just pathetic. He's trying very hard to be dignified, but you know, wearing one of those things - just can't do it. :)

Last night, I'm driving home on the Beltway during rush hour. At one point there's a sizable strip of interstate with no lights and a 12 foot strip of grass between the highway and the sound barrier. And bouncing along that strip, start stop left right where to next?, are four deer. I can't even figure out HOW they got there. And it's not a good place for them. Leaving aside the high probablility of smushed Bambi, they're almost the same color as the asphalt/dead grass/sound barrier and at dusk, with no lights? Rush hour? Highway? I was envisioning 10 car pileups. Yikes. Please, Bambi, somewhere else!

On a less dangerous note, I discovered today that Towson University's campus police have their own K-9 unit. For real. Maybe 15,000 students on a suburban campus and they need/can afford a K-9 unit?

Finally, a story with a happy ending. And a darn cute puppy. I'm very relieved for the family.

Michael Vick may be entitled to make a living, but I don't see where he's entitled to prestigious awards for community service. And WTF are the Eagles thinking? Surely among 50+ players there's one who has done even one thing for the community they could give the award to?
