Yes. It's what you think it is. And I'd be glad for the nine bags of rock salt right about now.

Yes, I'm back. And I will get to my vacation, but I have plenty of little things I wanted to get out of my system.

Yesterday at the convenience store: an older woman comes in and berates the 'useless people' (me included) 'wasting money' on lottery tickets. Then she buys cigarettes. Pot, please meet kettle.

Feeling old again: the office's soon-to-be attorney was given a form to type. After staring at the typewriter for a few minutes, he came to my desk and 'fessed up that he's never used a typewriter in his life and has no idea how it works. He can't even figure out how to put paper in. I'm so old.

Dexter premiere reactions )
Supernatural - teensy vague spoiler )On a related note, we will try to actually go to the movies this weekend and see the Michael Moore film. It's my way of flipping the bird to right wingers without straining my poor little fingers.

On a lark, I picked the Detroit Lions to beat the Washington Racial Slurs last Sunday. 'scuse me while I enjoy my giggles at the expense of the office's Washington fan.

Speaking of which:

So I'm sitting here at work, trying not to think about the clients-from-a-very-significant-federal-agency who are in the next room auditing our billings, and my mind turns to Supernatural and Lost and the parallels that seem to be popping up between them. Previous Supernatural Season 5 Musings )  And another one came flying into my mind.

Vaguely spoilerly if you haven't watched Supernatural this season )

Tonight debuts the fifth season of Bones, and with it my dilemma: do I bother to watch it or not? Season 3 stumbled a bit, but season 4 was just atrocious. They didn't jump the shark, they did a back flip with a half twist over it. So do I continue to inflict it on myself in the hopes they return to early season form, or flee? (We have the NFL Network now, so there is somewhere to flee to.)

Next week, I'll be having similar internal debate on CSI. They weren't as bad as Bones last season, but they're on against Supernatural, which, let's face it, rocks.

Got the wisecrack out of the way last night. For some more serious (well, sometimes) thoughts, continue.

Spoilery thoughts esp about Lucifer & Castiel )

OK, so I didn't see Supernatural until tonight. Sue me. That was a great football game last night.

Anyway...is anyone besides me greatly amused at the idea of Mark Pellegrino playing the Devil (Supernatural) and an angel (Lost) on the same season of television? It gives me giggles.

Okay, finally getting around to this.

Sunday morning I was in early to the art show, which is only open for pickup (both artists and buyers) and until noon. Plenty of people, both artists and not, really took their time coming to get their stuff, and a couple of artists were bound and determined to just grab it and run. The staff, of course, would prefer they turned in the paperwork showing what didn't sell and sign a confirmation that what was left was returned to them. More interesting, however, were the six pieces of art that were sold, but no one ever came back for them. Three were Sarah Clemens pieces; including the two that the family who practically yanked the things out of my hands Friday night had bought! They paid for the pieces Friday, and never came back for them. Another person did the same thing, paying for a piece and never coming back. The other three pieces? All mine. Three different buyers bid on three different pieces of mine, and none of them paid for them or came back for them. Dammit. My sales this year were half of last year's to start with, and those 3 pieces knocked another 25% off what I made this year. Double dammit. Arseholes. They won't be allowed to bid on art next year but that doesn't help me now.

Anyhoo, once the show actually closed, I did another pass at the dealer's room and picked up a small stuffed ferret. Very cute. Put him in my backpack with just the head peeking out of a pocket. Very adorable, if I dare say so myself. With many recommendations, I decided to get a Christopher Heyerdahl autograph after all. He was very amiable indeed and we discussed Dr Who for a bit. I told him there was a Supernatural panel later, he said he might drop in. Then I went to the Terminator panel, where we had to suffer through what I thought may have been the dumbest person ever to come to a panel. (Panel moderator Lorenzo said later the dummy wasn't the dumbest...but was definitely a top three finalist.) Apparently, nothing this guy saw in the show or the movie registered, but he considered himself an expert on the show. Oy. Then [livejournal.com profile] jslinder and I went up to the game room to play Dominion and taught a newbie the game. The game ran into the Supernatural timeslot, so I started playing to end the game instead of win. You got it - I won anyway. I was late to the panel, but in plenty of time to catch Heyerdahl's appearance at the panel. He did the Alistair voice for us :) Much fun. Then it was back to the game room and multiple games of Dominion with a variety of folk, including one guy who was just waiting in the hallway for his wife. We got him playing and he nearly won his first game. I blew out at 7pm, needing dinner and wanting to watch CoE.

And that was Shore Leave weekend.

Got hit with the next blow from an unexpected place - I have a shop on CafePress, had it for 4 years or so now, and my best selling item for over 3 years now is a bumper sticker for Supernatural. "My Other Car Is A '67 Impala." Apparently, GM has deemed that an IP violation. (Let's not get into the 500 other items on CP which have photos of impalas, the word GM, the word Chevy, GM or Chevy logos, etc. that they aren't calling out as violations.) I disagree and told CP that, but if they don't take my argument I'm not pushing it, I'll delete it. If they want to sue me over the $50 or so I've made from it, they can knock themselves out.

Watched the finales over the last two nights, and there were some interesting parallels/coinky-dinks. Could almost wonder if the respective show-runners knew what the other show was up to...

There's probably more but I'm too tired/headachy to come up with them at the  moment.

It dawns on me I haven't posted for a few days, to include never following up on my Sunday adventures. So here's the short version:

Went to the dog show in Timonium Sunday and was voluminously slobbered on by a chocolate Lab, hugged by a Siberian Husky, loved by a Norwegian Elkhound, etc. A good time. Then we went to the Senator to see 'Help!', and were...underwhelmed. The music is awesome, my favorite period in the Beatles' discography (heck, 'Help!' is my favorite Beatles song) but the movie was just too weird for me and Mom hated it.

Woke up the next day and could barely move - the up and down to photograph the dogs on the ground destroyed my knees. Yuck.

Found an 8GB flash drive for $18. Perfect for the nice new DVD player. Happy.

The internet continues on its turbo-cized ways. Very happy. And running out of room on the external drive...

My feet hurt, which is odd. I haven't stood a lot lately, but they feel like I've been standing all day. Not happy.

I have been late to work every day this week no matter what time I leave or route I take. This is annoying. Have also stayed late every day this week, mostly trying to fix accounting problems, which is not my strong point but apparently isn't anyone else's either.

Yep. Supernatural finally comes back from winter break and...it doesn't come back. The local (bleep) CW network is running college basketball instead. Supernatural won't air until Saturday night (at 7pm, for those similarly situated.) The problem isn't really so much having to wait until Saturday to see it (yes, I'm downloading it, but it won't finish until sometime tonight) but that I have to not read much of anything on LJ and avoid bulletin board, groups, e-mail lists, etc until I finally see it. Grump.

You can pretend you're a high level government agent, if you just have enough properly labelled telephones.

Thanks Supernatural!

Never install an Ipod in a '67 Chevy Impala, even if the car's original owner is in hell.

Thanks Supernatural!

How do you shut off the water in the shower such that you disconnect the handle from the pipes? My mother managed that yesterday, and now we can neither turn the water off nor on. So no shower today, and we've probably wasted 30+ gallons of water. The second plumber we called (the first hung up on my mother) is supposed to come this morning.

Where's an environmental terrorist when you really need one? I was passed on the road this morning by a shock-yellow Hummer 1, covered with bumper stickers. Among others: 'Liberals Hate America'  and Obama with a line across his face and 'Lynch him, don't elect him.' I wanted to slam my head on the steering wheel. The next car to pass me (another SUV) had but one sticker on it: "Got Hope?"  Not much anymore, thanks.

I've oft heard that Browncoats are the 'scariest fandom'. Beats me why, esp after I've just had a 3 hour dinner with 10 Browncoats representing 5 states and 2 countries to celebrate one guy coming to visit, then heading out to the movies and then the DVD player with most of them. But given the current kerfuffle over in Supernatural fandom, I think those folks might deserve the scariest fandom title. And I say that as Supernatural fan (not fanatic.) I knew about Wincest, but not about the volume of RPS and such.

There is good news today - I'm getting a raise, effective Friday. Woo-hoo!

Emmy Noms

The good, the bad, and the weird...

The Wire finishes its first rate run with a complete Emmy shutout. It loses a Best Drama nod to...Boston Legal. Gack.

Two And A Half Men gets a Best Comedy nod; Pushing Daisies doesn't.

Supernatural and Smallville both get noms, for sound mixing.

Battlestar Galactica gets a pile, mostly for Razor, but also a writing nod for 'Six of One'.

Chi McBride is overlooked for Supporting Actor - Comedy.

Lost hits the comeback trail solidly, but no noms for Terry O'Quinn. (Michael Emerson does get one, and he should win.)

Zeljko Ivanek gets a nomination! About time! (But he'll lose to Emerson.)

It's the attack of basic cable! And I really need to go back and watch Mad Men, I saw an ep here or there but not the whole thing. Saw all of Damages though, glad my boss is nothing like Patty.

Total and complete shutout of Life, Moonlight & Journeyman. Boogers.

Got the boss hooked on Day Break, hee hee. Gave him just the first disc last night, he watched one and then had to see all four. And came in this morning looking for the rest, which I happily obliged.

Missed Lost & Supernatural in favor of watching Dr Who tapes, but I did tape them. After tonight I'll have 15 hours of videotapes to watch. I need a DVR. And a day off. I may get yet another Sunday off though, I haven't been to a baseball game in over a month because every Sunday, IT RAINS. And the one Saturday I had free, IT RAINED. And I thought of playing hooky yesterday and going to Bowie's 11:00am game, but IT RAINED. This Sunday, it's supposed TO RAIN. I'm sensing a pattern here. But I should manage to get in the Towson Spring Festival and my fave band, Hectic Red, before the rain starts tomorrow. Sunday's ball game and house concert/barbeque at a friend's place, however, are endangered.

The only thing I know about the Kentucky Derby this year is that a filly is running, Eight Belles. I know which horse I'm betting on!
