OK, so, anyone besides me can't get LJ to cooperate this week? I've been able to manage just one comment and one post this week, and those only came from switching to Chrome. And that was a really marginal improvement. I've had a lot of trouble with the compie this week, it's fully updated, turned it on and off a few times, cleared the cache, Norton says all clear, but it's still cranky. Eesh.

I passed on Menygwacon, I'm exhausted, the weather is lousy and I'm just not up to driving a distance in 'mixed precipitation' and then dealing with their crazy neighbors and certain unpleasant gamers. So instead I took down and put away all the Christmas decorations (before you say it's early, Mom wanted them down on Christmas), and then sat down to mainline 'Homeland'. I have all of that and Dexter recorded and waiting for marathons, and today I watched six straight eps. I'd like to finish it tomorrow except football will likely get in the way, but I should be able to finish all of both shows by the time I go back to work Wednesday. Meanwhile,

it takes some balls to waltz in and blow away an FBI task force. Meeps.

Looks like at least some of my Dexter prognosticating was wrong. I also incorrectly picked the killer on H50 (delayed airing due to the Ravens' debacle Monday) and apparently was off on Homeland as well. So either I'm not as well-versed in the rules of television as I thought, or I'm more tired than I thought.

If you haven't seen the first 3 eps of Dexter Season 6, run, run away! Quickly!

OK, for starters:

Spoilers Abound )

Mild spoilers following:

The Good Wife - Alicia and Will have that entire office hornswoggled. Smart people.

Boardwalk Empire - granted I just watched season 1 a couple weeks ago, but it seems to have moved seamlessly into Season 2. And Chalky is one cold fellow. I suspect his wife and/or son are doomed.

Hawaii 5-0 - Damn Alex O'Loughlin is hot. I can form no other coherent thoughts.

Castle - that was awfully complicated...

Alphas - my my my. Rosen certainly did turn this thing on its ear.

Dexter's premiere ep. Already seen it. (Don't ask). It may be the funniest episode of Dexter's entire run. Just sayin'.

And I still have 5 more shows parked on the DVR. Good thing I'm off tomorrow. Next week, I'm screwed.

Went to work, nothing special happened, finished last night's dinner, skipped tonight's dinner because not hungry, now watching Dexter. No big deal of a day, but nothing out of hand either. Did treat myself to Haagen Daaz Bananas Foster ice cream though :)

Hey, I take little wins when I can get them.

from [livejournal.com profile] neadods :

• Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."
• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity
• Update your journal with the answers to the questions
• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions (I'll also answer more, if asked)

1) Desert Island, one book or author. It is...? - Harper Lee, 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. It's perfect.

2) Book you most wish you'd written. - See #1.

3) Book you most wish you'd written because unlike the idiot who did, you'd get it right. - Huh. While I can think of a lot of books that ran off the rails at some point, I can't think of any where the idea was THAT good that I could improve on it.

4) The favorite of your fandoms.  - Changes on a daily (sometimes minute to minute) basis. In terms of durability, probably The Lord of the Rings. I was into that at age 7 and still am, although there was a 20+ year gap involved. Making me run around and squee this week? Dexter. And so many in between...

5) What got you into making plaques? - I like wood burning, but there's only so much of it you can do for yourself. So I started making them for other people, and it took off from there. Gotta finish a bunch of critter plaques tonight.

Mondo mucho spoilers for Dexter Season 4 )

Just some thoughts I've had in the last couple of days regarding present television shows. Might be spoilery, but the wild theories spouted by me are strictly speculative, I haven't been spoiler hunting or anything, just letting my devious little imagination run loose.

Yes, I'm back. And I will get to my vacation, but I have plenty of little things I wanted to get out of my system.

Yesterday at the convenience store: an older woman comes in and berates the 'useless people' (me included) 'wasting money' on lottery tickets. Then she buys cigarettes. Pot, please meet kettle.

Feeling old again: the office's soon-to-be attorney was given a form to type. After staring at the typewriter for a few minutes, he came to my desk and 'fessed up that he's never used a typewriter in his life and has no idea how it works. He can't even figure out how to put paper in. I'm so old.

Dexter premiere reactions )
Supernatural - teensy vague spoiler )On a related note, we will try to actually go to the movies this weekend and see the Michael Moore film. It's my way of flipping the bird to right wingers without straining my poor little fingers.

On a lark, I picked the Detroit Lions to beat the Washington Racial Slurs last Sunday. 'scuse me while I enjoy my giggles at the expense of the office's Washington fan.

Speaking of which:

This may be an ongoing series :)

The trunk of a Ford Taurus is large enough to hold two dead bodies.

Thanks, Dexter!

Just heard that Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter and Debra Morgan on 'Dexter', see my icon) have gotten married. To each other.

Now, while I realize that 'Dexter' is a TV show and it's not real, it's still going to be awfully squicky to watch a husband/wife play brother/sister.

OD'd on both shows over the weekend, so some thoughts.

Spoilers for Eps 7-9, I haven't seen 10-12 )
Spoilers for Season 3 of NCIS )

I hate colds. Especially colds that get worse over the weekend instead of better. My voice is just about shot and sleeping has been very dicey, and if my nose gets any redder I can be Rudolph. Blecch.

In this particular case, a portrait of everyone's favorite serial killer, Dexter Morgan.

Graphite pencils on Bristol Board is the order of the day. Took me probably 10-12 hours on this particular one, except that this isn't my first try at Dex. Previous versions resulted in uncooperative pencil/paper relations, so it was back to basics.

Plenty of annoyances, nothing major, just...aggravations. The weather is damp, cool and dreary. Worked a large show all weekend, hurt my back and shoulders, blistered my hands and turned my legs into a bruise collection but made less than a hundred dollars, so it really wasn't worth it. Went to a fast-food drive-thru for breakfast yesterday and today...and both time the store closed while I was in line. Wha? Tried doing a portrait of Dexter, which started out well but then for no special reason the pencil stopped sticking to the paper, then stopped blending. End of Dexter. And of course there's the computer. Thought about trying to dual boot XP - read the instructions and got a major headache. Considered dual booting Linux - same thing. Looked into ways to convert video for burning to DVD and my head nearly exploded. So no crisis, just frustrations.

Venting over!
